Mergers: Intel wants to buy nesting doll of Broadcom, Qualcomm and NXP

    Intel Corp. is considering a range of acquisition alternatives in reaction to Broadcom Ltd.’s hostile pursuit for Qualcomm Inc. that could include a bid for Broadcom, according to people familiar with the matter.

    Intel is said to be watching Broadcom’s takeover bid. If it fails, Intel’s happy. If it succeeds, Intel may try to buy Broadcom so that it doesn’t have to compete with Broadcom.

    NXP-Qualcomm deal failed due to interference China.

    “We intend to terminate our purchase agreement to acquire NXP when the agreement expires at the end of the day today, pending any new material developments,” Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf said
