    Zaxcom during IBC 2017 it has expanded its Digital Recording Wireless with a revolutionary handheld microphone that can operate as both a wireless transmitter and a hardwired microphone at the same time.

    The new ZMT3-HH is a first-of-its-kind handheld microphone featuring a 100% digital wireless transmission, hardwired balanced mic level analog audio, internal microSD recording with timecode, a programmable function button, battery life up to 14 hours, proprietary Zaxcom technology and more, in an ergonomically tapered design built for performance and rock-solid durability.

    “With the ZMT3-HH, we wanted develop a handheld microphone that delivers both wireless and hardwire audio transmission,” says Glenn Sanders, President of Zaxcom. “There’s nothing else like it out there and the ZMT3-HH provides users with more functionality and features without needing to purchase separate devices.”

    ZMT3-HH is perfect for everything from professional broadcast shows and live performances to those working on seminars, weddings, internet talk shows, video blogs, gaming videos, concerts, houses of worship and more.

    It’s fully digital wireless audio transmission features Zaxcom’s patented NeverClip™, which extends the dynamic range of the microphone to 128dB, eliminating the need for a compressor that distorts the natural sound quality at high volume audio levels.

    For hardwired connectivity, a balanced XLR output is located on the bottom of the microphone. If for any reason a wireless transmission is not possible due to radio frequency (RF) interference or lack of available channels, the XLR output instantly becomes the fallback, allowing the ZMT3-HH to be used in any situation.

    The body is constructed from machined metal with a tapered design for maximum comfort. Light and cool to the touch, the device can run for an exceptional 14 hours on a single lithium battery. Replacement is quick and easy with the twistable battery compartment located in the middle of the microphone.

    The design cleverly incorporates the antenna inside the body of the unit while a rubber bumper hides the XLR connector when it’s not in use, protecting it from accidental drops.

    Controls are also located on the bottom of the unit and can be locked to avert the talent from activating them during use. A programmable function button is on the side of the microphone where muting, push-to-talk or AUX channel can be assigned. On the opposing side, an OLED displays impertinent information of the device.

    A patent pending Light Identification Ring identifies functions and features through color including unit ID, recording verification, modulation mode and others. The Light Identification Ring can be controlled locally or remotely through ZaxNet™, Zaxcom’s wireless 2.4 GHz network.

    The ZMT3-HH is compatible with Earthworks WL40V or any Shure 1.25″/28 thread compatible mic capsule. Microphone capsules are sold separately. Expected availability is November 2017.

    Zaxcom, a leader in wireless audio technology, today announced that its ZMT3-Phantom has been reengineered. The new ZMT3-Phantom 2 now supports both balanced phantom powered microphones as well as compatible unbalanced lavalier microphones.

    Originally designed to change wireless booming, the ZMT3-Phantom allowed you to place the lightweight transmitter at the top of the boom pole instead of the bottom and accepted only condenser, dynamic or ribbon microphones.

    With its overwhelming acceptance in the sound community, Zaxcom listened to customer feedback and created the ZMT3-Phantom 2 which fully supports 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V balanced microphones and 3.3V lavalier microphones. This new capability has been added to the ZMT3-Phantom 2 while maintaining the same size, weight and power consumption of the previous model.

    “We launched the ZMT3-Phantom as a way to improve the boom operating experience, but we learned from our customers they wanted to be able to use it with lavalier style microphones too. We’re very happy to announce the ZMT3-Phantom 2 supports both,” says Colleen Goodsir, Director of Sales and Marketing at Zaxcom.

    Part of Zaxcom’s Digital Recording Wireless line, the new unit touts a 100% digital audio transmission that’s similar in quality to hardwired audio without compander, noise reducer, limiter or compressor distortion. This is especially important when using large diaphragm microphones.

    When paired with a boom pole, users can remove the extra weight of the internal or external cable which eliminates any noise that can leak into the audio track. The added support of lavalier microphones makes the ZMT3-Phantom 2 an incredibly versatile solution for professional audio recordists.

    The ZMT3-Phantom 2 is equipped with internal backup recording to a microSD card with timecode and 5 hour battery life. The new transmitter has a 100MHz RF tuning range and an impressive dynamic range of 110 dB.

    Additional features include a low noise microphone preamp, Zaxcom High Density (ZHD) modulation modes and ZaxNet™ which allows for remote changes in frequency, pre-amp gain or place the transmitter in record, playback and stop modes.

    A balanced 3-pin micro LEMO connects the microphone and a graphic OLED shows external audio and battery status levels. The new ZMT3-Phantom 2 is shipping now. List price $1,995 USD.
