Thanks to @IronFilm and @DrDave for the advice, but I want 4K at 60 fps, and the G85 ain't got it. And I've grown fond of Vlog. So I'm committed to one of the GH5s.
The video Mike Linn posted, Tokyo Run and Gun, was gorgeous, and made a great case for the GH5s's low light capabilities. But, they used fast Leica lenses, and they shot in areas of Tokyo that are very brightly lit. So I'll be watching for careful comparisons between the GH5 units.
As for shoots in low-light environments, well, there's Neat Video, and I can rent a GH5s if I get enough lead-time.
i have noticed something peculiar.
High ISO is a different beast to handle. A7s A7sII GH5s all at high ISO not only and obviously loose dynamic range, but people trend to focus more on mid tones, and clip the highlight with no hesitation. This gives shit image, bad handling of it.
One must shoot for low light knowing that post would be used to extract the shadow detail at an extent, but clip soooo much the highlights is stupid and bad looking.
This Japan video speaks for itself.
GH5S is not for everyone. Call it a specialty machine.
GH5 is better option for general use.
So now that Gh5s has 4k 60p 8bit....its more than obvious that it can pull 4k 60p 10 bit. More proof on Eva 1 gh5 Gh5s g9 same lsi.
Hack this camera, anyone. I assure 14 bit video
Review Redo: Sony A7S II vs Panasonic GH5S High ISO Comparison: http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2018/01/17/review-redo-sony-a7s-ii-vs-panasonic-gh5s-high-iso-comparison
No it does not show exposure values in P, A, S and auto ISO
I have to give the camera back to Panasonic tomorrow unfortunately as it is going to be used on an upcoming TV show!
@Mckinise Frame rate options are as follows in 24hz mode: C4K - 400mbps All I 10bit, 150mbps 10bit, 100mbps 8bit 4K UHD - 400mbps All I 10bit, 150mbps 10bit, 100mbps 8bit FHD - 200mbps All I, 100mbps 10bit, 100mbps 8bit
VFR is the same as the other frequencies. 60P on 24p 8bit modes and up to 240 with 8bit FHD
I'm seeing some serious banding on the yt vid--is it for real?
pretty amazing stuff Autofocus wise from the Gh5s compared to the gh5
That last test shows the better Face detect AF but hunting still prevails. See the erratic breathing of the focus on the background. Still a marked improvement from the terrible GH5 performance here.
Ehhh... AF and IBIS are both kind of for posers...
"posers" or "people who are maybe shooting something different than what you're shooting." One of the two.
@bwhitz Filming in a balcony or catwalk that moves up and down when ppl walk around or a car rolls by with a telephoto I think IBIS is pretty awesome, myself.
It's just a simple fact that IBIS is very useful especially to the level of client buying these cameras. If they perceived it as such a problem they should have invented a way to lock down the sensor. I can't believe that it can't be done. That being said I never heard anyone say "that damn IBIS is screwing me up wish they would remove it". So there justification just comes off as excuses. Also if your going to go this route you need to make remote focusing work as good or better than Canon especially when your AFC is below par. This way you can still use lite gimbals with these small cameras instead of big heavy Gimbals with motorized follow focus defeating the advantage of the small camera.
