FYI - you can save $100 on a Mavic by preordering through Massdrop. I just did.
You can save 100% by not buying it. I just did. :-)

Review
My Mavic showed up yesterday so I took it out this morning to test things out. I pushed the footage pretty hard in post and it looks OK, but the limited bitrate becomes a real liability when shooting at 4K. I might try going down to 2.7K next time to see if it cuts down on some of the blockiness. As always, youtube compression is also not anybody's friend - the original footage looks a lot better with less blocks/blobs than youtube.
DJI Mavic vs GoPro Karma
In the world of drones, the Mavic Pro makes clear that there are still huge gains to be made in terms of how small and accessible a great flying camera can be.

Anybody know if I buy this drone from DJI online store I will get in the 10 to 15 days like they claim? I know many retailers still don't have this drone yet and I am in need for a done for a one week project in mid March 11-18th. Or does anyone know where I can get one by that time?
the Norway video has been picked by vimeo stuff but for me it's anti-promotion to the Mavic. Once you have discovered the jittering mountains you see it all the time.
This is not America. This is not Germany. This is The Netherlands!
DJI Mavic Pro + Spare Battery + Landing Pad + 64GB Memory Card + 10% Adorama Rewards - $1009
New "Mavic Platinum" announced. Absolutely not worth an upgrade from existing Mavic. The upgrades are a improved motors, and quieter propellers - supposedly the improved motors give a 10% increase to flight time. Absolutely not worth an upgrade if you're an existing owner, but if the only thing keeping you from buying a Mavic was that the flight time was about 2-3 minutes too low, it's finally time to buy.
Edit: It looks like the new propellers will fit the existing Mavic which is nice. I wouldn't mind my drone being a little more quiet.

The New and Improved Mavic Pro Platinum
The DJI Mavic Pro Platinum takes all of the advanced features of the Mavic Pro which revolutionised personal flight and builds on them. It is ideal for travellers, amateur photographers and outdoor sports enthusiasts.
With an 11 percent gain in flight time taking it up 30 minutes coupled with a 60% noise power reduction[1], the Mavic Pro Platinum provides the best portable drone experience yet. Additionally, the drone’s compact and powerful body has also been created with an attractive platinum coloured shell.
The increased flight time and quieter operation has been achieved by integrating new electronic speed controllers (ESC’s) and freshly designed propellers which are also compatible with the current Mavic Pro.
Furthermore, pilots of the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum benefit from a portable, powerful and easy-to-use camera drone that features a 4K stabilised camera, 4.3 mile (7km)[2] range, innovative FlightAutonomy technology to sense obstacles up to 49ft (15m) away and a range of intelligent flight modes that make it extremely fun and easy to fly.

Dji needs to improve the camera and the compression which is the mavic's achilles hell
Judging by the Mavic platinum, I'd say that DJI feel right now that they don't need to improve a lot in what is probably the most popular drone on the planet. I wouldn't be surprised if they have something better in the works (maybe based on Ambarella H2 since it supports 4Kp60 and higher bitrates), but until a competitor announces something to take away Mavic sales (or until Mavic sales slump because everybody already has one who will buy one), they have no real motivation.
(Also, I've found the camera and compression to be acceptable for most things)
I've decided to give it a try and after mere 4-5 flights I have to say: Mavic Pro is great! Flies very well, hoovers steadily and image stabilization of the gimbal/camera is just amazing! Video bandwidth is limited to 60mbps (lets pray for somebody to hack it), so it sucks a little bit on 4K, but UHD and 2.7K looks really good. Some tweaking of camera settings (as well as post production) is needed, but it was definitely worth buying. I am very pleased with final FHD image I get (from 4K/UHD or 2.7K source). And in "Tripod Mode" Mavic becomes unbelievably stable - very smooth, slaw movements - ideal for taking butter smooth footage. Other autonomous flights also help a lot to get a job done, without being a first class drone pilot... In addition, when hand-held, it works very nice as a small 4K gimbaled-camera with live, wireless video feed on your smartphone or tablet. Considering the price (899USD) - it was my best bang for the money! Tripod mode example
