Price on Australian Panasonic site is AUS$2000 or US$1500. At this price it may be competitive against the Sony NX100.
Wow, I can't believe Panasonic would wrap old fish technology in a big box and stick a flashlight on the front.
Absolute crap!
Sad there is still demand for this. Rather have a Sony AX100 for the same price.
This can be useful for small crew making news. Vitaliy is right here.
You can have the smaller ax100 and put a $50 aputure high CRI light on it and have 4K and real light. If you are a small news crew, the ability to crop the final product in post will be super useful. You can run it for four hours on a Kastar battery or even use USB.
Or even just save a bit and get the CX900, as frankly news likely won't even use 4K in post.
You can, but you also need $600 crappy Sony adapter, or $300 Saramonic one.
Cameras also hard to compare, with smaller zoom, much worse stabilization, worse ergonomics, lack of second SD slot, etc
There's a couple of things that stand out for me. The first is the ND filter. If I'm shooting outside, I want that manual and auto ND filter built in, which the Sony ax100 has, plus it works in tandem with the built in exposure comp. Then I want a bigger sensor, and a higher bitrate. I agree that the stabilization is important, and the Sony is not so great in that regard.
As for adding a high CRI light, I don't see that as costing $600 and the placement and size of the built in lights on the Panasonic looks a bit weird. I would just take my trusty Aputure and stick it on top (which would give a better angle). Also, it's really handy to be able to either take a decent photo or extract a decnt photo for news purposes, and the Sony will do that just fine.

Above is mentioning of XLR adapters with mike, not light prices.
At this price level many are probably not even using XLR gear. Or as you said, a very very cheap Saramonic could do it (not $300).

All are using XLR. Provided is not preamp, it is passive converter with trimmer, not useful for task.
You can look at proper category we have topic about two Saramonic audio adapters.
