If you ask me, I am all for good big (and wit big lens) refurbished 1080p 3-LCD or LCOS projector with new bulb. With real motor controlled tilt and zoom.

  • I'd love either "True" 1080p or "some sort" of "4K"... if there is a Hybrid Laser LED or something (so no bulb replacement) that seems like it's Bright and Crisp... then that might be the one for me.... I'll look at the W1070! thanks!

  • if i was buying a projector today, i certainly look at led models with 30,000 hours of lamp life !

Almost all such projectors use budget single DLP chip. And life of this chip (as it has tiny mechanics on it) is much less.

  • @bannedindv I would say the Benq w1070 is the best budget projector you can find. It's not prefect but it's amazing for the price. Heaps of info online.

  • What is the current best performance Sub-$2000 projector on the market ?

No one knows, as you do not specified resolution, usage, etc

  • actually the new stick is supposed to have much improved wifi over the original. I heard they're coming out with higher spec'ed models soon.

Both Wi-Fi speed and heat issues are impossible to completely fix in sticks. Due to physics.

  • that's how it works for me...just copy the startup icon that the app creates on your desktop to the "all users" startup folder . Kodi is just another application, like any other. On mac they're called aliases.

ps....every mac user should be forced to learn alittle windows. You might be surprised like I was !

  • I hope its that easy, this is the kind of info I had found via my friend ;) http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Make_Windows_boot_directly_to_Kodi_(as_a_shell)

  • if windows 10 is the same, you just drag the app icon into the startup folder. btw....google is your friend

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev Do you know an easy way to set up Kodi so that it runs on start up? (its the only software I need to use for media)

  • why'd you choose the transmart over the compute stick ?

Sticks have much worse Wi-Fi speed, many overheat.

  • @tubefingers....why'd you choose the transmart over the compute stick ?

  • great thanks, i install Kodi 16 to start, seems to work ok, I'll order the presenter

  • My PC knowledge is minimal - what software/apps do you suggest installing for use as a media centre?

Lots of stuff exist, Google. I suggest Zoom player if you have mouse capable remote.

also - i know you suggested a remote - would that one linked be adequate for basic controls: playing music, selecting movies, netflix etc?

It is presenter - it can do anything that mouse can do.

  • for speakers - Im sticking with the Audioengine's and running them from Arax5

  • ok, my Tronsmart Arax5 finally arrived! My PC knowledge is minimal - what software/apps do you suggest installing for use as a media centre?

  • @tubefingers

No, I mean normal receiver with amplifier. Like Pioneer, Onkyo, etc.

  • Do you know of any good wireless solution that enables me to connect projector to powered speakers without the need for cables?

How about just audio receiver with RCA outs for at least front speakers.

Most modern ones perfectly work wireless and it solve your issue with crossover and calibration.
