Could I get suggestions for the best in-camera and mic settings using the Rode Videomic Pro? I've heard setting the mic to +20 and in-camera to like 25% but just curious of what others think works best. Thanks!
Usually mic to +20 and the camera's audio levels at minimum I.e. -12 is a good starting point.
I suggest to experiment. Find some very quiet place, get some noise gen software on your smartphone and turn it on close to mike, and try all levels combinations that produce same resulting level (look at the screen) starting from low levels. Turn off noise from smartphone and continue record. On your computer you can look at spectrum plot for each produced audio, select one setting that has minimum amount of noise and hum (it is not hard to see them in almost complete silence on spectrum plot).
Usually you do not set levels same in each situation.
Thanks for the feedback. Will have to play around with it. Much appreciated!
