Panasonic G7 topic, 4K castrate monster or GH4 for poor

This camera is a decent upgrade for the Lumix G-series, which was originally designed for the people who would never spent the same money on GH- no matter how good it is: a decent image sensor and processor, 4K video, support of UHS-II cards, 2.36Mpix OLED EVF, etc. Nonetheless, I am a bit disappointed that they didn't included some of the features of the CX7 (in-body image stabilizer, tiltable EVF, 1/320 sec flash X-sync,...) and LX100 (multi-aspect ratio sensor). I really hope that Panasonic would make GX8 worth to upgrade from GX7.

Hi, I will know if the G7 supports the Extended TeleConverter (ETC) in the UltraHD (4K) mode. Because with the G6 in fullhd 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p or 60p a single lens, namely a 35mm + speedbooster + normal adapter, I can have a plethora of focal lenghts (rounded): 25mm (SB), 60mm (SB+ETC), 70mm (normal), 170mm (normal + ETC)

I don't believe the G7 has the same Sensor as the LX100. I believe they've said that it's the same sensor as the GX7 but with the Image Processing of the GH4. The thing that shocked me was no NFC. Guess they felt it would help keep the cost down not to include it, but that seems a bit odd.

@Aria, the sensor in the LX100 is from the GX7 also (it is only not used in its entire area to have multiaspect - hence the 12mp resolution - and because the LX100's lens image circle did not cover the entire sensor).

Great price for the kit. I'm very tempted to sell my G6 and get the G7 by the end of the year. Would like a body only though, as I already have a plethora of lenses.

I think you can't (despite original interface suggest that you can). You need to add second lens.

This G7 definitely follows in the footsteps of the honourable GH2 and it's another workhorse looking to make history, even if never gets hacked, but of biblical proportions if it does.

Will get one to replace my GH2 for another 4 years, unless the GX8 gets IBIS against all odds, which I further doubt every minute that goes by.

I don't think I can justify the upgrade from the G6 just for 4K. Let's wait and see how it handles low light. If the G7 produces roughly the same image quality from ISO 3200 that the G6 produces at 800, I'm all in.

@4CardsMan This is not a realistic demand. But, anyhow, the G7 sensor is newer and indeed better in high iso than G6.

The sample pics look good. The jpeg engine seems to have improved greatly on the noise processing, not as blotchy as before at similar ISOs. Looks much closer to Olympus jpeg performance now.

As a current owner of both the G6 and the GX7, the biggest draw for me with the G7 is not just 4k or better image quality, but better physical controls.
