Starting from 27.09 we are running unique design contest.
Made possible thanks to:
Simple rules:
1. You design accurate 3D model of any thing useful for film making. Be it entire rig, follow focus or just simple clamp. 2. Contest do not have strick deadline. 3. At any moment company can choose winner. 4. Winner recieve item made according to his design for free. And grants company right to produce such items in large scale if they like to.
You can also use any VM solution to run Windows programs.
If you ask me, get trials and choose the best software. Usually trial versions of paid software offer big advantage in productivity.
In post you must provide detailed part(s) description and your reasons behind design. To your post you must attach picture of 3D model and zipped 3D model itself (in native package format).
Really cool contest, I wish I could sit behind a pc without my back hurting like hell... :-( Perhaps people who do not know how to model, can post their most wanted design ideas here?
I have a design for a replacement top handle for the AF100 as well as a design for a Nanoflash mount that replaces the side handle on the AF100. I don't need the money if they mass produce it, I just could use them like yesterday.
If TrusMT would send me the CAD design docs for their 15mm Follow Focus, I'd be happy to correct its design flaws under the same terms as this contest. My critique and suggested modifications of the device can be seen here:

I highly doubt this. Ypou can use many photos available. I could also ask for cross sections and measurements photos. But you do not need to model entire FF if you do not need.
@Vitaliy_Kiselev It's understandable why TrusMT wouldn't release the complete design docs. Actually, I wouldn't need the follow focus gear docs, just the CAD docs for the mount and adjustable arm.
I've contacted a company in my state that offers 3D scanning services. Nothing defininte yet, but if I'm lucky, I'll get a CAD scan of the GH2 body, then work up a shell design from that.
Very good find. It is cheap. Interface is quite strange compared to modern solid modellers, but looks like it works. I don't see trial versions, unfortunately.
Looked at PunchCad thing, it is usable, but as I said, interface is strange and it works not very good under Windows. Under the hood it is Dassault Catia engine.
Trial links (I do not know why V8 is not present here):
