Love this - thanks for posting. Really interesting to see how the corrugation and tensioning is done. I have a couple of old Tannoy ribbons and someone at the BBC re-magnetised the magnets and re-ribboned them for me. Used on a musical instrument, they're not the lowest-noise things n the world (mine aren't anyway, because the output is so low) but the sound is a really "natural" balance of an instrument in its acoustic. In theory apparently ribbon mikes should be really low-noise because the source impedance is so low, and the transformer increases the output without amplifying the source noise. In practice this only works if the preamps are really good. It would be cool to try out a modern ribbon!
I heard one of SEElectronics Rupert Neve ribbons on a drum kit recently - fantastic. Love to hear the mic on some brass instruments
One of the good ribbon mikes - http://kaminstruments.com/studio-mics.htm
They are made in China but firm is US, btw. Quality is good, especially Candy one.

Looking at specs, photos and all, it seems like galaxy ST-R3 is same mike as KAM Candy

KAM advantage is that they have good owner and make actual measurements of each mike as far as I know.

Looks like MXL ribbon mike rebranded. Plus set is not too good as you need mesh and mount anyway usually.
