Hi. Anybody knows if there is a less expensieve alternative to this device (aside of the zoom h1) ?
Thanks to answer

My guess is you're paying a bit more to get mic and recorder combined. Perhaps Rode mic(or even something cheaper) and a Roland R-05 recorder. Total cost $300. That recorder is light as a feather and is the same size as an iPhone 3GS. I've used it a lot - very good quality. Good luck.
it is very little difference between not bad cheap Chinese on camera mikes (you can scout section for topics) and such thing. Usually modern camera sound path is not so bad to have recorder in mike,
Thanks. But it gets my gh2 (which I want to buy very soon) quite cluttered with those two good devices and a LED light lamp. Unless there is a hack that allow sound monitoring (I know normally there isn't, same thing for the headphone jack, unless I'm wrong), I thought It could be a good compromise, even with it's price.
Anybody can confirm about the sound monitoring on the GH2
May be, if you need recorder with headphone output you can get small Olympus DM-620 or Panasonic XR800, this is from good quality ones supporting PCM recording (both are <$70 on ebay). They are smaller than Zoom H1. Such thing is small and you can attach it easy using just one cent rubber bands.
@monks19 why not h1 or a cheaper one, the mics on it are the same as in most of recorders, it is difficult to notice quality deferences in all those small captule mics, except if you go for a studio large, anyway, if you don't pik in levels and you set an almost standard eq in post or in any audio software you will have very nice results.
@matt_gh2, can the Rode videomic go be powered directly with the GH2 ?
@Vitaliy_Kiselev, I'll check on those, thanks
@starios, I need a shotgun or cardioid for shooting weddings, events & corporate videos, so I need something efficient for directional captures in big open places/spaces.
@matt_gh2 Not sure re phantom power. There's a decent inexpensive mic that was posted on here. Will try to find it for your. Was used outdoors in big spaces and sounded good.
Ok, thanks matt.
$40 ISK CM-20C hyper cardioid mic as mentioned in this thread might work.

Check out mic on this thread and listen to samples by user @Rambo on page 3 of this thread. I was impressed with quality.
Also maybe the thread below can help. Best of luck!
Thanks a lot matt.
That ISK mic does need phantom power though matt_gh2, but it's a good performer outdoors from 2ft away for interviews or as semi shotgun but has a little too much rear pickup to be used on camera. It performs best overhead pointing down or below pointing up which was how I used it in the videos posted in that thread. The Rode video mic pro picks up too much background noise for me outdoors, it needs to be either very close to the source ( within 1ft) with levels down low or just used as an on camera mic for general pickup.
@Rambo Great info. Thanks
Thanks a lot people. I've just made my choice for the rode videomic go.
See you next time.
