New approach to LED with higher CRI

Epistar Corp of Taiwan combined red LED chips and blue LED chips for lamps that have high color temperatures. When two red LED chips and two blue LED chips are used and electricity (140V, 20mA) is applied, the maximum luminance efficiency is 120lm/W and the CRI (color rendering index) is higher than 85, the company said. It plans to start sample shipment in July 2011 and volume shipment in September 2011.

Cool! I have a cheapie 64-LED battery light. Amazingly bright and a nice quality of light - but I can't use it on people because it has a lack of red - so everyone's skin looks blotchy. So it's great to hear people are developing LED sources with a high CRI (so hopefully, a kinder spectrum that will suit skin tones).
