I was just looking at the Zacuto Fee-N-G and then saw the price tag. I really like this configuration, just like my old camcorder.
Has any one put something similar together with cheaper parts?

It doesn't seem like a complicated setup.. just a raiser for the camera. 2 rods with only one handle and a cheap looking shoulder piece. a small weight and maybe a magic arm for your viewfinder.. Should be easy enough to copy

Have you tried scouting at the Gini Rig website? They have great stuff there that are second to none at very affordable prices. I own one, and have never regretted it.
The other rig to look at is the Manfrotto Sympla system. Fantastic design, vintage Manfrotto architecture and craftsmanship, but this one costs quite a bit more. I own parts of it to complement my Gini
