  • I've got one coming to me. Can't wait.

  • "Vintage 58mm f2 lens based on a classic 1960's Zeiss optical design."

Yeah, its called a Soviet Helios-44-2. You can even see the "Made in the USSR" stamped on the side. Better to find one for $20 and sand off the paint yourself ;)

  • True, they are only Helios 44-2 lenses. But Rich has put some time into researching and experimenting with different colored lens coatings, barrel coatings, and I think perhaps even aperture coatings to get certain looks. He seems to have it down to a science and I was able to pick and choose each characteristic that I was looking for, and then specify to which degree.

  • Most of that flarage is coming from the Century on the front of the other lens - looks very familiar!

  • Would be nice to know really what they do... a handy service would be for them to offer recondition options for all the existing Helios-44-2 owners. As I have at least 4 decent copies of that lens it would make more sense to send one of my own or at least have some kind of trade-in offer.

  • Saved for future purchase. I love those warm, rainbow diffraction patterns. Very unusual.

  • @MirrorMan I would contact Rich. He might just do that for you.

  • @BurnetRhoades thats the flare I mean, aside from the usual blue streaks my Optex and Century give that mental flare seen at 37 secs onward - maybe some Helios in there also but those 1.33 strap on anamorphics do that a ton.

  • Read the story at Eoshd and you'll see it's not just a standard Helios, that's just the foundation. A standard Helios doesn't do what this lens now does.

  • Mine just got in. I haven't had a chance to do a proper shoot with it yet, but I have not been this excited about a new lens in a long time.
