I quite like the look of it for a really light system, not sure how well it will work. I'm very tempted though.
I tried messaging them to ask about using the device on metal lenses like the Voigtlander ones, I don't fancy putting something metal on metal, its clearly designed for the more normal rubberised focus wheels. I reckon you could put something in between the metal wheel and this device to protect it though.
@jimtreats I personally replied to your email about the DSLR Follow Focus and using it on metal focus rings. Did you receive my reply sent on August 6? If not, I can resend it. -DSLR Solutions
For the rest of you who are interested, I think that a rubber band is going to be the best bet for getting something thin and grippy in between the DSLR Follow Focus and metal focus ring lenses. Mitch over at Planet5D noted that he used the DSLR Follow Focus with his Leica, metal focus ring lens without anything in between, and that it work fine, but just had a different feel. The key is getting the right size to fit your lens.
If one of the standard sizes will not fit, we can create a custom sizes to meet specific lens requirements. We have created many custom sizes over the last several weeks for cameras and lenses such as: Sony EX-3, Fujinon zoom, Sony NEX/18-55mm & 18-200mm, Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm and Older Nikon AI 50mm, 28mm and 105mm to name a few.
I will try to follow this thread in case anyone has further questions.
You guys are missing the point. The $4 jar opener does NOT let you mark focus points or rack focus between them.
There is a lot of labor and care that goes into every kit that I put together. This product is handmade and not mass-produced in China and thus the price reflects this. The DSLR Follow Focus has been quite well received in the industry. I have had people who use rail follow focus systems purchase my kit because of the ease-of-use and portability. I was looking for an "under $100" professional solution that I would not be embarrassed to pull out when doing client work. One did not exist, so I created it.
@dslrsolutions Don't get your panties in a wad. No one is slamming your product. No the jar opener doesn't mark focus points.....but someone could just as easily make a mark on the jar opener....put a rubber band in place of your black elastic band and put some marks on that and get basically the same results. Would I use a jar opener.....hell no. But others are working on no budgets and things like this are right up their alley.....
@dslrsolutions yeap, probably your product is very well made, but, if you are looking for a cheap solution and there is a cheaper solution than yours... well...
