Great insights by a guy with an impressive body of work. One of the few Cinematographers that inspire me.... because he thinks about more than just "the shot" he thinks about the nature of light AND the story as well. A great talk about his thought process.

Interesting. And his answer to the last question perfectly illustrates why films shot in 3D typically look so boring when you view them in 2D (which is they will be most viewed.)
I've had the pleasure of working with John. I learned more in chatting for 10 minutes about lenses with him than in years on other sets. Brilliant, talented, and a sweet guy.
