One more lens to the m43 Voigtlander line-up from CP+
Maybe "easier" to build at this focal lenght than the two others... less pricey ? No!

May be, plus they want to fill the holes.
Many people exist who want to get 12mm, 13mm, 14mm,.... 40mm, 42.5mm, 45mm, 50mm, .... lens set :-)
According to http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20130131_585912.html The lens has the "video-friendly" clickless aperture system, minimum focusing distance of 23cm and maximum magnification ratio 1:4. It would be interesting to compare the Nokton to the coming 42.5mm f/1.2 from Panasonic, whenever that shows up.
This is great news! Hope they make also 12mm (possibly 0.95) :-) 12, 17.5, 25, 42.5 would be a great set ...
Maybe 42.5 x2 sensor crop to make it 85mm 35mmsensor FOV ?
Does seem in line a bit with the 17mm (approx 35mm 35mmsensor FOV) and 25mm (approx 50mm 35mmsensor FOV)
full-frame 35mm speaking a set of 35,50,85 focal lengths is quite common.
At least now you can buy a set of three Noktons for video and be done with it. :-) Well, maybe add the Olympus 12mm -- If only the BMCC was active MFT.
This is excellent news. CV lenses are a real pleasure to use. I wonder if anyone has considered a rebuilt focus barrel featuring a FF gear? (for all the VC lenses)
...was really hoping for a 12.5mm or something in that area to be coming next. They went the wrong direction. I guess I'm sticking with my Olympus for now.
@kingmixer, as cool as I think a 12mm Voightlander would be, they have two fairly wide M43 lenses out, so it seems to me they made the logical choice.
@mee I agree. 17.5, 25 and 42.5 at 0.95 is a great set. Now they can concentrate on a wide angle.
Agree with kingmixer; should have been 12mm Think many would have bought that straight away !

Video with Voigtländer Nokton 42.5mm f/0.95 on Panasonic GH3, "no ND filters, no legs, no nothing..."
"First impression: This may become my second most loved and used lens after the 25er."
Looks lovely. Tough to decide which Voigtlander will be my first...
42.5mm lens has a feature which is familiar from the previous 17.5mm lens. They both share stepless aperture control.
Voigtländer is a solid and heavy performer. Mechanically it's amazingly well designed and it will not disappoint its user who know how to harness its power.

at 1:00 in the video above, that is one very loud stepless aperture! ;-)
O
For such a fast lens, the Voigtländer 42.5mm f/0.95 is quite sharp, even at wide apertures. At typical portrait focus distances, the 42.5mm f/0.95 is quite sharp right from f/0.95, though there is lowered contrast than at smaller apertures. However, focusing outside of this range, both on more distant subjects and especially on closer subjects, results in softer images when the lens is shot wide open, predominantly due to rather heavy spherical aberration at certain focus distances.
At f/0.95 to f/1.4, the lens provides enough sharpness to give you nice detail at the point of focus, while falling off gracefully to allow for very nice portraits.
Once stopped down to f/1.4 or f/2., the lens loses most of its low-contrast glow and starts becoming extremely sharp. At f/4-f/8, the lens is razor sharp from corner to corner. Click on the image below to enlarge
There is spherical aberration which lowers contrast. Part of the magic of this lens comes just from the same phenomena. Sharpness stays at a perfectly good level while the image starts to glow.

Contrast is good, even when shooting into the light. Hood is supplied with the lens, which does a sterling job of shielding the lens from extraneous light that may cause issues.
At f/0.95 center sharpness is approaching very good levels, although the clarity towards the edges of the frame is only fairly good at this aperture, which is typical for a lens with such a fast maximum aperture. Stopping down greatly improves sharpness across the frame, resulting in outstanding clarity between f/2.8 and f/8 across the frame.

Very impressive lens! I very like sharpness, clean colors and flares at 0.95 for video (but may be for photo you'll want close it to 1.2).
I was skeptical before, if 42.5mm could come close to new Zeiss Plannar 50mm f/1.4 quality and my conclusion is YES!
Zeiss Plannar looks incredible sharp at 1.4 but Nokton 42.5mm has better flares, than Zeiss.
It feel more better than Nokton 25mm 0.95 at field. . If Cosina will decide make Nokton 25mm Mark II close to 42.5mm overall quality I will buy it for sure.
I just little missing 50mm (100mm FF angle view), because 42.5mm (85mm FF angle view) has less close-up than 50mm (I loved it so much!)
