Uses new .RED file format for distribution at 2.5MB/sec for 4K content, you can convert your DPX and TIFF files also. Built-in encryption with DRM! (key feature for us content producers)
Supports 4K 3D, up to 60 fps playback. (Yep, handles Hobbit and think future Avatar framerate)
ODEMAX network Launches January at Sundance, you can distribute your own films at approx 70%/30% cut for home distribution and lower % for theater chains...

They dream big in 4K over there, and this tears down the studio and distribution barrier for indies...
On the other hand, Sony has the most 4K installations around, but this is an indie movement 4K push and if it does take off I congratulate them.
The beauty of this solution, is the control you have over the entire process from start in .R3D to final distribution in .RED at that super low compression for 4K 3D up to 60p with DRM- just magnificent.
Additional info about the .RED 4K 3D distribution format:
the .RED file frame size is the same as a DCI container - 4096 x 2160 - so .R3D files are cropped and / or scaled to fit into that.
Thanks for posting this. It's difficult to follow this at Red - wading through endless pages of babble. I appreciate your summary.
Just a question, on what are you going to watch it?
@danyyyel You can literally send your .RED format content to any 4K screen in the world if they buy a RedRay player , or bring your own RedRay player to your local art house movie theater if they don't buy one- it's designed for 4K projection, but is also allows for 1080p downscaling.
You can enjoy master quality .RED 12 bit 4:2:2 content on any 1080p screen also
It's industrial designed for signage as well, and also supports 4 screen 1080p output, dual 4K output and multiple units can be genlocked. Imagine 2-4 of these players genlocked kicking out 8K signage today, in 3D.
So, you could play back on a 1080p 3D TV today, a 4K projector or a 4K Sony TV, or one of the cheaper 50-55" 4K sets releasing at CES 2013.

PS. Hisense sells at Walmart, so cheap 4K screens are coming shortly...
