  • do you think the 80% is the 120fps

    Nope.

  • Then what is it? It said it had 40, 45, and 80% slowmotion.

One guy mentioned something about it having highspeed like the "Sony Fs camcorders" (not that I really trust what he has to say.)

  • I understand now. Real shame at the lack of 120fps. Really could've been THE selling point of the camera. Any chance this will come with a firmware update? Probably a stupid question, but i'm grasping at straws.

Have no idea. We have such questions in interview, hope we'll get answers.

  • 700MB of pictures for pixel peepers - see later in topic. Look for mediafire link

  • VK I hope this ends up ptool capable. Would be stellar and even I (now with a job in my pocket) will be donating. I'll not be, "upgrading," per say, but regardless of a hack I will be buying this as I've been saving my B-cam spot for something special.

  • @tmcat

No one know this so sure. Same it was with GH2, it required us time to find hard, but working, approach.

  • well if the time comes, the community is only growing.

One interesting, and a little troubling, thing i noticed on a spec sheet was an L burst rate of just 2 photos per second. I thought this seemed a bit low and could suggest some not so great buffer room. I'm sure someone on here can pull off the top of their head how many photos per second the Gh2 shoots on L and I am curious to find out. I thought it shot 4 which would fall in line with the 40 at 4m. I could be wrong though. The GH3 only shoots 20 at 4 m.

  • Panasonic has just delivered a knockout combination of features in an amazingly compact GH3 two-lens zoom kit. No other manufacturer can match the following list of features at anywhere near the Lumix system's size, weight, and price:

    • 24-70mm & 70-200mm full-frame equivalent zooms
    • 3x zoom ratio @ constant f2.8
    • Optical Image Stabilization
    • Large sensor 16Mpixel 12-bit RAW still photo resolution
    • 1080p video @ 24, 25, 30, 50, & 60 fps
    • Weather sealed lens & magnesium alloy body
    • iPhone & Android remote control and download
    • HDMI & headphone monitor outputs
    • Fold-out LCD screen
    • Full-time Live View
    • Add-on battery grip

Of all the specs in this list, the only case where Nikon and Canon enjoy a competitive advantage is in offering cameras with >20Mpixel full-frame sensors and/or 14-bit RAW resolution. In addition, it's not yet known how well the GH3 will measure up in dynamic range and noise levels. But regardless of performance specs, Panasonic has hit the prosumer's bullseye with the most flexible hybrid camera yet, armed with the most compact f2.8 3X zooms available.

    AVC PROFILE/LEVEL INFO:

    • Level 100 High, Profile ID 5.0.

Theoretical possibilities for the profile Level 5 as found inside the GH3:-

Max decoding speed (over twice the power of the GH2):

    • Luma samples/s: 150,994,944
    • Macroblocks/s: 589,824

    Max Frame Size:

    • Luma Samples 5,652,480 (around 2.5 times more luma samples are observed than GH2)
    • Macroblocks 22,080 (nearly 3 times more than the GH2)

Max video bit rate for video coding layer in kbit/s for High Profile level 5:

    • 168,750 (well over twice the power of the Gh2's level 4.1)

Examples for high resolution @ highest frame rate (max stored frames in brackets)

    • 1,920×1,080@72.3 (13)
    • 2,048×1,024@72.0 (13)
    • 2,048×1,080@67.8 (12)
    • 2,560×1,920@30.7 (5)
    • 3,672×1,536@26.7 (5)

    Dpb (decoded picture buffer) Info:

    • The Dpb (maxDpbMbs) has effectively around three times more capacity than the GH2's level 4.1 which results in more efficient decisions on the best way to encode a given picture.

  • @driftwood

    Looks good.

Another step in the right direction.

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev Yep, certainly does. Its incredibly effecient. :-)

  • Can anyone confirm clean hdmi output option? Seems like hearsay so far.

  • Hey guys, my internet is too slow right now to download: are we seeing any heavy banding so far?

  • @driftwood Thanks for yor report. Looks great! :-)

  • Ira Block and the GH3

  • @jhero

We had this posted some time ago.

Anyway, I added it to GH3 wiki page.

  • I have a question about the timecode - I don't see any dedicated I/O ports for it. How do you sync it to an external source?

Add this to questions for interview.

  • time of day is my guess

You can also sync with a 3.5 adapter I believe.

  • Does anyone here have a G5?

  • @vitaliy_kiselev @aked do you still need space? I can give you my vimeo plus account details. You have 5 gb at week.
