OK, not strictly new! There was a huge amount of interest in producing colour moving images in the closing years of the 1800s, and the National Media Museum in Bradford, UK, has just restored and released some of the earliest known colour test footage. It was shot between 1901-1903 using a sequential 3-colour system. You can read more about it and its place in the development of colour, and see the footage here:
