For an upcoming film, I am staging a shot of a square card table approximately 3 feet on each side. I want to shoot no closer than 41 inches from the table. Using M43, what is the maximum focal length that will include everything? I tried several online calculators, and for a 35-inch square 41 inches from the camera, got a result of 14mm. When I actually tried it with my 14-42mm kit lens set at 14mm, I could get no closer than 11 feet and still get everything in. I do not have a wide zoom or assortment of wide lenses, so I can't run the test myself, and the formula, FOV (rectilinear) = 2 * arctan (frame size/(focal length * 2)) does not produce the desired result. (vertical frame size is 13.5mm, the height of the M43 sensor).
