  • Coins rationing in US

“It was just a surprise,” said Gay Dempsey, who runs the Bank of Lincoln County in Tennessee, when she learned of the rationing order. “Nobody was expecting it.”

Dempsey’s bank typically dispenses 400 to 500 rolls of pennies each week. Under the rationing order, her allotment was cut down to just 100 rolls, with similar cutbacks in nickels, dimes and quarters.

  • Covid via fomites (surfaces) - nope

  • @Mistas .....well....they'll have to convince me more on that theory ! What about all the studies that showed corona lingering on objects for days ? This suggests that to contract corona you must be living and breathing in close quarters with an infected individual. Other contact tracing studies have shown infection thru passing of objects. Corona is supposedly 80x more infectious than originally thought. How could both be true. I wouldn't stop disinfecting food purchases based on this one piece of info. We've been fed a large portion of shxt in the last 6 months, and this could be more of the same.

  • Since May 8, an enzyme immunoassay tests has been performed in the Moscow Region to determine antibodies to a new coronavirus infection. During this time, over 125 thousand studies were performed in the Moscow Region.

At the moment, according to the results of ELISA, in the Moscow region 17.7% of the examined people had antibodies to coronavirus.

I have huge issues with all this tests that show results from 14 to 17% constantly.

As far as I understand it is huge issue with tests used as none of the are specific enough and accurate enough.

  • Researchers conducted a retrospective analysis of over 2,500 patients hospitalized between March 10 and May 2 in the Henry Ford Health System in Michigan. Over 2,000 of the patients were given hydroxychloroquine or the anti-malarial with azithromycin, an antibiotic.

The study found 13 percent of those who received hydroxychloroquine alone died compared to 26.4 percent who didn’t receive the drug.

Hydroxychloroquine alone decreased the mortality hazard ratio by 66 percent and the anti-malarial with the antibiotic decreased the ratio by 71 percent, researchers said.

I fixed this, auto URL recognition works bad sometimes.

  • @kurth, testing surfaces has mostly been done via PCR which only tests for RNA fragments. If a virus lands on a surface and denatures, the PCR will still detect the pieces....but for a virus to be "infective" it must remain intact. Imagine that a virus is like a soap bubble. It easily splatters and falls apart. If a soap bubble lands on a table and breaks, we can sample the table and positively identify soap remnants but the bubble is no longer intact. And even if the virus remained intact on surfaces, we are still left with the virus needing to become aerosolized so that it can be inhaled into the lung. That won't happen from smearing a contaminated surface. Many good studies on small pox show this. Respiratory viruses are very bad at fomite transmission.

  • The European commission gave conditional approval for the use of antiviral remdesivir in severe Covid-19 patients following an accelerated review process, making it the region’s first therapy to be authorised to treat the virus. The move comes just a week after the European Medicines Agency (EMA) gave its go-ahead for the drug, produced by Gilead Sciences.

    Money, big money do wonders.

  • @Mistas

Usual respiratory viruses are also not very common during summer and in hot climates. But not this one.

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev the whole summer and heat thing has more to do with people spending more time indoors in colder weather where confined air and close encounters with people are statistically more likely. Where this virus excels is in its stealth. Asymptomatic spreaders. Bars, restaurants, a 10 minute car ride windows closed with your friend...these still satisfy transmission criteria. With flu/cold/small pox you're at home feeling like crap.

  • In the United States it doesn't seem like the HCQ study is getting enough publicity, especially from non right-leaning websites. For example there's still nothing about it on the Associated Press or npr. At least CNN ran the story.

But isn't a potential 50% decrease in mortality rates of hospitalized patients huge, great news?! And it's cheap and readily available (for now). I don't understand how it's not the biggest news around right now but all I see are articles about how Trump is going to Mount Rushmore. It's insane.

  • On Saturday, July 4, 2020, the president signed into law: S. 4116, which (1) reauthorizes lending under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) through August 8, 2020; and (2) separates the authorized limits for commitments under the PPP from other Small Business Administration loan programs. - the statement read

    Improvements,

  • @kristoferman

Whole bad thing is that it is cheap as well as some other medications. Remember - capitalism is about profits. And coronavirus showed it like flashlight.

Check above - Remdesivir approved in EU despite absolutely no evidence of it working, becaus expensive.

WHO discontinues hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir treatment arms for COVID-19

WHO today accepted the recommendation from the Solidarity Trial’s International Steering Committee to discontinue the trial’s hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir arms. The Solidarity Trial was established by WHO to find an effective COVID-19 treatment for hospitalized patients.

The International Steering Committee formulated the recommendation in light of the evidence for hydroxychloroquine vs standard-of-care and for lopinavir/ritonavir vs standard-of-care from the Solidarity trial interim results, and from a review of the evidence from all trials presented at the 1-2 July WHO Summit on COVID-19 research and innovation.

These interim trial results show that hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir produce little or no reduction in the mortality of hospitalized COVID-19 patients when compared to standard of care. Solidarity trial investigators will interrupt the trials with immediate effect.

For each of the drugs, the interim results do not provide solid evidence of increased mortality. There were, however, some associated safety signals in the clinical laboratory findings of the add-on Discovery trial, a participant in the Solidarity trial. These will also be reported in the peer-reviewed publication.

This decision applies only to the conduct of the Solidarity trial in hospitalized patients and does not affect the possible evaluation in other studies of hydroxychloroquine or lopinavir/ritonavir in non-hospitalized patients or as pre- or post-exposure prophylaxis for COVID-19.

It is like long time war that proves that COVID 19 is artificial and has some important purpose.

WHO at all costs want to introduce some specific 100% population vaccination and it can be this exact vaccine that is actually main tool to some population reduction.
