Hi I will be shooting a short this summer about drifting and illegal street racing. Wondering if anyone knows any site where I can get some good car rigs to mount my camera. Need something solid that will not break my bank.
@PixCanFly, yah I have seen that before. They have some good stuff. Kinda pricey though.
When I used to hang out with the drift crowd we used suction glass lifters with some hose clamps, pvc fittings, and 1/4-20 bolts to mount our cameras outside or inside the car. We always ran some backup lines of parachute cord in case the suction cups failed but they never did.
The glass lifters are pretty cheap and can be bought in different sizes online or at a home improvement store. http://www.amazon.com/Suction-Glass-Window-Mover-Puller/dp/B0041P5KHS/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1328021547&sr=8-8
@jpbturbo thanks, how solid was the setup? Was your shuts shakey?
at a track day one time we compared footage from the home made suction mount to a professional mount one of the guys had and there was no difference.
It really depends on how well you build it. We had an uber cheap version for small point and shoot/gopro style cameras and one that was more solid that we ran with a GL1. The point really is that the suction lifters are cheap and then you build on top of that. The quality of your end product depends on your fabrication skills.
