AMD Navi GPUs, AMD 5xxx series, official topic
  • Make correction that leak is on big AMD fan channel :-) So, some stuff is not fully correct :-) Use logic that guess that.

  • I went with a used 1080ti for 430$,been using 1060 mini 6gb for a couple years now

  • @sammy

    May be, may be not.

Note that 1080 Ti used can outperform it sometimes and is much more future proof due to more memory.

  • At 400 to 500$ for new or used GPU , is the 5700xt best option (working with Davinci, fusion, after effects) ?

  • @karl

Radeon VII is no longer made, actually.

  • I wonder why they started marketing Navi with GPUs that are less performant than their older "Radeon VII" product. Sure, the Navi chipset is more power efficient - but still not as power efficient as their competitors, so I really would have expected them trying to best their older generation with a new high-end model in absolute performance.

  • Two parts define GPU performance in video editing - calculation speed and video encoders/decoders.

Updated DisplayPort 1.4 HDR is now capable of handling 8K displays at 60 Hz with a single cable. It can also handle 4K UHD at 240 Hz with a single cable. Support of HDR and 10-bit color is included. But only using DSC 1.2a (Display Stream Compression). The display controller also supports 30 bpp internal color-depth. The HDMI implementation remains old HDMI 2.0 without any real progress.

    On video decoders and encoders

    GPU provides hardware-acceleration for decoding VP9 video at formats of up to 4K @ 90 fps and 8K @ 24 fps. H.265 HEVC hardware-accelerated encoding of 4K at frame-rates of up to 60 fps is supported. H.265 HEVC decoding is accelerated at 8K @ 24 fps, and 4K @ 90 fps or 1080p at up to 360 fps. H.264 MPEG4 supports 4K @ 150 fps, and 1080p @ 600 fps decoding; and 4K @ 90 fps and 1080p @ 150 fps encoding.

Progress is really small and do not see any AV1 implementation here.

  • Navi also boasts an improved video engine. It can now accelerate VP9 decode at up to 4K90 and 8K24; H.264 decode at 1080p600 and 4K150; encode at 1080p360 and 4K90; H.265 decode at 1080p360, 4K90, and 8K24; and encode at 1080p360 and 4K60. Encoder speed-ups are reportedly as high as 40%.

  • Another failure? Or mining could save them?

  • Asrock prototype cards

Power consumption will be 225W for better and cheaper one will eat 180W.

But even best seems to be only RTX 2070 competitor.
