  • B&H has just changed doa from Sept. 3th to Oct. 5th... Sad!

  • The price is so reasonable that I probably will buy it even if it does not work.

  • For me it's a little overexposed on very bright parts but it's too early for conclusions about DR. Otherwise it makes you want to try it.

  • Yeah the Dr seems pretty good. Would have been nice to have some faces in there. I don't shoot Botany videos for a living.

  • @Firkworks It seems that its has a good DR

  • Looks like some sample footage is finally here!

Theoretically we can deduce from this that it is a functioning camera.

  • Probably because the production models have not been finalized yet. There is no weight spec either, because the production model is using different materials than the prototype.

  • Pretty disappointed that we haven't seen some useful ftg out of it yet.

  • @jleo That'd be perfect. The BMBPCC4K! It rolls right off the tongue. Also I think it looks pretty cool in the pictures so if it looks even better in person that's great.

  • I saw it at SIGGRAPH, it looks a lot better than in photos. As they always say, the camera always makes you look heavier :) Maybe they should change the name to Backpack Cinema Camera.

  • I've got my JNCO jeans ready for it!

  • @eatstoomuchjam

    It means "Pocket Monster".

  • Look at the size of that thing! "Pocket" is such a misnomer!

  • At BIRTV they told that they are on track on shipment dates

  • Guy went to a Blackmagic Design event and they had the BMPCC4K prototype. Was able to ask them a few new questions I haven't heard answered before.

  • @IronFilm 4K didn't matter to most buyers, and neither will 8K, but this is the direction we're heading. Since I am not most buyers, I have a bag of popcorn popping and am getting ready to enjoy the show that most don't care about =) In all seriousness, there are allot of train video hobbyists in Japan, home of the Shinkansen, that and the Olympics coming to town make for excellent marketability for global shutter. Global Shutter sounds better than "Super Scan Speed" or whatever term would be used. Global Shutter, for the Global Games, Capture every pixel, every moment, every time, for all of the world to see etc, etc.....

  • If read out speed is fast enough then global shutter or not doesn't matter for most buyers.

  • @azza_act for me global shutter first and foremost is what I want on my next $1k range camera. Black Magic is the horse to beat for the moment. All signs point to Panasonic releasing 8K before announced date, but the global shutter and global shutter organic sensor (internal ND's, Low light) are the question mark. It is clear it will be available by the 2020 games, but whether it is part of the up coming 8K package or if panasonic will release a watered down 8K first is the big mystery. If there are no signs pointing to global shutter from panasonic by the time the new BlackMagic Pocket camera's start shipping, I may very well go Black.

  • @mee

8K wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me, global shutter would be nice plus internal NDs, 4K 60p 10bit internal and GH5s lowlight capacity would make me choose the GH6 over the bmpc 4K. But I’ll probably get both anyway :)

  • As much as I want this camera in the now, I will hold out to see what Panasonic is offering next. 8K is looking very likely this year, and global shutter may be rolling (reverse pun intended) along with it, and other companies seem geared to do the same. - I have seen things, you people would not believe ;)

  • Hope we will have the picture render of first pocket. My Gh5 do a good job but old pocket was incredible...

  • @flash there does not appear to be a LANC or remote port on it. It does support BMD's Bluetooth control system similar to the Ursa Mini Pro.

This is about the most useful and informative video I've seen on the BMPCC4K yet. No BMD employees, no talking even. Just slowly going through every single menu and screen with clear image, and spinning the camera around to all sides.

  • Wonder what this means for pricing on upcoming global shutters from big manufacturers. Most will only pay so much more for good looks and some fancy features imho. Maybe this camera will help bring the GH Series prices back down to earth. Unless it is global shutters and 8k all around the G neighborhood.

  • That Fujion 18-55 would be such a sweet lens with it!
