  • Guys.
What do you think about following idea.
We'll approach exhibitions coverage same as cameras.
We'll collect certain amount of money (and wishes).
And people who have skills and will be present on exhibition could get this money if they'll make necessary coverage.
This will be mostly presentation clips (not short) and interviews.
  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev

    Great idea. I will donate.
  • So what does everybody want for NAMM? I'll be there.
  • @thepalalias

I am interested in real coverage.
    Not just "I'll be there".
Do you have expirience doing one man interviews on the run, rig, mike for direct to camera recording, rtc?
Fast cutting and posting results in few hours.
  • Just intrigued - is there an equivalent annual show about techniques and skills? In other words not a show about "gear" but about using it well?

The nearest equivalent I can think of us the UK house building shows which have seminars / advisers / experts to talk to, plus articles and magazines which self-builders can learn from (either how-to, or even "if" they should be getting into building their own houses) It's also about "gear" (heating systems / windows and the like) but quite a good balance.

I wonder if that would work for film / video, or maybe people aren't so interested?
  • The West L.A. Recording Expo (previously the West L.A. Microphone Expo) addresses both. That's where I fielded questions over the years to everyone from Rupert Neve to producers like Teddy Riley and Val Garay, etc.

Unfortunately, the timing for the expo changes each year (it's in the mid to late fall) and we often don't get a lot of notice. This year I got my first e-mail from them about it on October 13th and the expo took place November 12th and 13th.

It's a smaller event in terms of scale (several hundred to 2,000 people) but slant is definitely writing, recording, producing, post-producing (or the less kludgy way of saying that) and marketing music. West L.A. Music sells a lot equipment and the expos are a good place to buy things, but several of the speakers aren't selling anything at all (like Charles Bernstein, a veteran compose that scored Inglorious Bastards for Tarantino among many others).

Anyway, here in L.A. there are several organizations that provide workshops, etc. but I don't know of any other shows dedicated to that.
