    Only VA 12G for BRAW, and Resolve does not recognize ProRes RAW.

    Now that GH5S can output BRAW to Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR and Prores to Atomos Ninja V, what of those options willl be the best for RAW recording and editing on Resolve/Premiere with Windows? Only Video Assist 12G or any cheaper model will work aswell? Does the final image will be really better than the internal Vlog All-i at 400mb??

    Prores and Braw for external recorders are a great addition, as focus ring control is. Really really nice and appreciated. But they forgot to put continuous Timecode for those serious drifting issues with their Jan Sync only.

    GH5S Firmware Version 2.0

    1. Improved AF performance
      • It can detect the eyes / face at a 2x faster recognition cycle speed and human / animal at a 5x faster recognition cycle speed. These subjects can be detected even they appear in approximately half the size.
      • Tracking and recognition performance of AF have been improved with an addition of head recognition.
      • Human/Animal recognition can be set ON or OFF when the AF mode is set to [1-Area].
    2. RAW video data output over HDMI function
      • The Apple ProRes RAW can be recorded on Atomos NINJA V.
    3. [4K] / [Anamorphic (4:3) 3.7K] 12-bit RAW video data can be output over HDMI.

    This is a small test grading v-log using the official Arri Alexa Log to Rec709 Lut (no color space conversion applied).

    It has been a surprise that it suits really well with the Gh5s V-log clips (better than the Panasonic VLog Lut to my taste), and it is a very good starting point to grading. I was thinking in buying the Emotive Color Ghalex S Lut, but I haven´t seen any samples yet, so I decided to try the official Arri lut included in Davinci just to try what happened and I am really happy with this first test with sun light.

    Picture freeze may occur at burst recording using an external flash when camera is set to AFC/AFF and LVF frame rate 120fps, has been improved.

    1. Expanded compatibility with Profoto wireless transmitters
      • Profoto wireless transmitters "Air Remote TTL-O" and "Profoto Connect-O" can be used.
      • All functions may not be available depending on the situation.
    2. Improved AF performance
      • [Animal Detect.] has been added to AF mode.
      • [AF-ON: Near Shift] and [AF-ON: Far Shift] functions have been added. [AF-ON: Near Shift] preferably focuses on a subject nearby while [AF-ON: Far Shift] preferably focuses on a subject far away.
      • Focus Peaking function is available in any AF mode.
      • It is possible to set continuous AF on the live view screen in Creative Video mode or in other video recording mode when the video recording area is displayed.
    3. Other added functions
      • [AWBw] has been added to WB mode.
      • [Highlight Weighted] has been added to metering mode.
      • [Exposure Offset Adjust.] has been added to Custom menu, which enables adjustment of the standard exposure value for all metering modes.
      • [0.5SEC] has been added for an option of [Duration Time (photo)] in [Auto Review].
    4. Other improvements
      • AE can be locked with the [AF/AE LOCK] button when ISO Auto is set in M mode.
      • [MODE1] has been added to the Live View Boost function, which increases the frame rate for smooth image display to enable easier manual focusing.
    5. Improved operational stability
      • There were cases where Backup Recording using the Double Card Slot Function stopped during writing. This bug has been fixed.
      • AF operation following the pressing of [AF-ON] in MF mode was unstable when the LVF Frame Rate was at 120 fps and the camera was under dim lighting. This bug has been fixed.
      • There were cases where the images shot vertically did not rotate on playback. This bug has been fixed.

    Improved AF performance

    For GH5S and G9

    [Animal Detect] has been added to AF mode. Utilizing Advanced AI Technology, animals, including cats, dogs and birds, can be detected in addition to humans. The focus frame is automatically set on the target subject by analyzing the size and position of the target subject in the viewing image. The camera continues tracking these subjects even when they turn their back to the camera.It is possible to switch the subject to focus on by pressing the joystick in [Face/Eye/Body/Animal Detect] mode.

    [AF-ON: Near Shift] and [AF-ON: Far Shift] functions have been added. [AF-ON: Near Shift] preferably focuses on a subject nearby while [AF-ON: Far Shift] preferably focuses on a subject far away.

    Enhanced video functions for G9

    • 4K 30p/25p 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording is supported.
    • 4K 60p/50p 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output is supported.
    • Luminance level for 10-bit video is supported.
    • VFR (Variable Frame Rate) shooting is supported (FHD 2-180 fps/4K 2-60 fps).
    • HDR video recording is supported.
    • V-Log L recording and Waveform Monitor (WFM) are available with the Upgrade Software Key DMW-SFU1 (sold separately).

    Panasonic will launch a new major firmware update for the GH5 / GH5S / G9 cameras. No info yet about the possible improvements…

    Small rumors are that we can see external raw recording via HDMI using Atomos recorders.

    Internal ProRes RAW most probably wont happen.

    Shot all handheld with the powerful GH5S in 4K 60P DCI 10 Bit Pro Res LT to the Atomos Shogun Inferno. Captured in V-Log L and color converted to the Alexa Color Science with the Emotive GHAlex(a) process. This resulted in soft, pastel like coloring, and a smooth highlight roll off in the specular highlights. The grading is imperfect due to time constraints, but should serve as a testament to what these cameras are capable of!
