Finally some serious competition. Not sure I am quite ready to switch....some bad AMD experiences.
But if it matches the 7900x, that's a pretty good upgrade.

12 core looks not bad.
Threadripper 1950X dropped to $477
It is slower than new 3950X in some tasks, but good boards are cheaper and you can put much more RAM and stuff in such system, including using many GPUs for Resolve.

Add to this open box X399 board with 10Gbit LAN for only $339 and you are set for next 10 years, as board will also play nice with 32 core Threadripper 2. Plus you can really add 4 full speed big GPUs to it.

That 1920x looks tempting, i see it $199 from my side, whats a good motherboard to combine it with, I got 1080 ti as my main GPU now on the xeon workstation from a few years ago.
Yep. Cheap offer is from guys who ship direct, not via Amazon.
x399 motherboards are very nice. Motherboard - see post right above "-)
Used like new for $315
After later upgrading to 32 core, can live with it for 8-10 next years.
Can check nice test of this exact CPU

Just note that all Adobe benchmarks have not huge sense, as today their code is not loving many cores and prefer fewer fast ones. It is especially bad in Photoshop and After effects.
Despite video/effects rendering being perfect task for multi core / multi GPU rig, almost all NLE sucks badly. As far as I know no one can different render parts of all video on different parts of CPU (or different GPU). And it is very basic thing.
Vk, basically of late (last 2 years) has been 95 percent of what I use is davinci for editing and grading , maybe in blue moon after effects . My xeon machine is still very good, especially for render speeds , only thing since latest update of davinci 16.1 ,I haven't have fusion tab crash davinci or never load or take for long time ,I addressed the issue with blackmagic tech,we been going back and fourth for 3 weeks with no solution, it never had issue in past
