Now that Magic Lantern gave us continous RAW recording in other consumer Canon cameras (in 10 or 12 bit), this camera can be very fun to shoot with c-mount and many other lenses!
Hands-on
Review
We weren't disappointed with camera performance, even though neither of the two EOS M kit lenses supplied with the camera were stellar performers.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology had been ported across from the EOS 80D where it speeds up acquisition and improves accuracy, but AF settings are limited when compared with what you get in the DSLR camera.
Review
False color is well-tamed on the M5, and that it shows more detail than the a6300, and is a bit softer when compared to the Panasonic G85.
Your only options for shooting videos are fully automatic and fully manual, though thankfully, Auto ISO is available with exposure compensation in the latter mode.
Another review
Images directly from the EOS M5 are great, and it’s certainly on a par with other compact system cameras in those terms.
Dear Canon: crappy video=crappy camera. Please consider fixing this problem as soon as possible.

New firmware
Firmware Version 1.0.1 incorporates the following fixes:
- Corrects a phenomenon in which, when the playback grid is set to “6×4”, and a vertical image is displayed, or a horizontal image is rotated to be displayed vertically, the grid does not display correctly.
- In languages other than Japanese, the phrase “no. of shots” has been corrected to “value” in the “Time-lapse movie settings > Interval/Shots” setting screen.
