Australia's renewable energy investment stops

Most DaVinci stuff is like bible (you need to believe in it), not like science. Unfortunately.

People believe in almost everything, reading internet. And lots of people made it their business.

We do not actually know if it was revolutionary and if someone else made any such drawings of ideas. We do not know it.

  • Leonardo DaVinci invented a self-propelled car.

    http://www.livescience.com/11329-leonardo-da-vinci-10-ideas.html

It's no Ferrari, but Da Vinci's designs for a self-propelled vehicle were revolutionary for his day. His wooden "car" moved by the interaction of springs with geared wheels. Scientists at one museum in Florence built a replica in 2004 and found it worked as Da Vinci intended.

Also he had a vision of an ideal city built on 2 levels, so maybe this can be looked at by city planners to solve many of the shortcomings cities face?

  • @wordsofpeace

Capitalism has limits on systems it can do. For example it can not do such things (it can only close center of the cities and make huge parking prices and fines).

  • London, UK is an example of a city that would truly benefit from a policy of only cars and electric cars on many of the streets. I know it's a dream, but so many streets are not suitable for anything larger. It would take a massive shift in attitude of our Gov and Boris. The benefits would be huge.

  • Before my mum passed away, she had a mobility scooter. I had a load of fun 'testing' it for her.

  • Another Chinese electric car

  • people at work do not like if you smell not so good after going up 3 big hills (and most workplaces do not have showers)

HA HA! True! I never thought of that. But maybe what we need is shower stalls at every street corner. Bikes are beautiful. The designs of bikes are more innovative than (most) cars, apart from maybe the high-end sports cars. Get to Vietnam before everyone trades their bike in for a car....soon.

  • I just cannot get excited about the concept. A person can't pedal up a hill? If you don't like pedaling buy a Ducatti.

LOL. I think you never used bike for long rides in real life (not for sport or fun). Many people in the world use bike to travel to work, shop or such.

Electric bikes are popular as people at work do not like if you smell not so good after going up 3 big hills (and most workplaces do not have showers) :-)

Well, except for designers look (and big flat thing that is very bad for strong wind, especially that it is rear wheel only) it has very little actual difference to cheap wheel kit and battery that you install on bottle cage place.

  • I actually love bikes for their simplicity. Still, for $900

  • @brianl

You'll be shocked to know how much electrical transport (not cars only) Chinese make (and how many are used inside China) :-)

  • Those are cool little cars! Want want want!!!

  • Actually, in No Impact Man, Colin Beavan recommends NO CARS. Not a shift to electric cars. Electric cars still strain the environment and don't solve traffic problems. It's way too radical and may never happen. But basically he's advocating extremely efficient and comfortable public transportation that people would actually want. Where is the fun in driving anyway? Is it actually an enjoyable experience stopping at red lights every 10 minutes? Not to mention all the traffic-related deaths.

Imagine going to work this way instead of sitting in traffic. Taking a tram with leather reclining seats, gourmet food on board, individual 4K monitors for viewing internet or films streamed from Netflix, enough room to operate your laptop comfortably, a full recliner that allows you to sleep an extra hour on your way to work. Driving a car in traffic is better, right? Even if you don't give a rat's ass about the environment, you can't argue that there's a far better way to get people around cities than what we currently have. And with all the space saved by taking cars off the roads, there would be more space for actual green space, parks...

Cars can be reserved for race tracks. We can to to racetracks or specially designed areas for driving on weekends and rent a Porsche 911 and drive it around the track for a couple of hours.

  • @Adam_Mercier

Recumbents are not suitable for normal people, and pointless for low speeds.

You can just open alibaba and check that Chinese already produce lots of small electric cars (and also normal looking car), really affordable.

If you need electric car now for city - used Nissan Leaf is really good.

  • "Plus, around 90% of people most of the time only need small car for one guy and with 40km/h speed limit :-)"

Simple, just need to be mass produced http://www.recumbent-gallery.eu/wp-content/uploads/velomobile-fietser-waw-12.jpg

  • Wind energy is actually viable and the risks are minimal. the risks you mention aren't cited as problematic. No, there aren't vast swaths of land coated in oil and ruining lives because of oil leakage.

  • Anyone here in the knows about Tesla Powerwall? Would love some opinions.

  • I love green energy movement, anything to keep the plebs in check, confiscate the gas guzzling cars, impose electric cars, don't tell anyone where and how do those electric car companies (and smartphone companies too) get their materials for batteries and how much of the Africa is getting plowed all over for it.

If it was in option I'll do it in a moment, I mean confiscate gas cars and give them electric ones.

Well, energy use could be less efficient, but if you ever lived in modern cities where 90% of all shit and noise is from cars... All electric cars need is better electric generation (that can be located quite far from consumption).

Plus, around 90% of people most of the time only need small car for one guy and with 40km/h speed limit :-)

I think the best solution would be to stop any progress of and for the plebs, so that those with money can still continue to play with their toys without having to cope with weird weather patterns and extremes and any other global warming repercussions.

Green energy! Look at that land, let's put dozens of giant white stands with propellers there to save the earth.

Oh what's that you say you classical atheist liberal? You didn't hear about those nice propeller thingies spitting massive amount of excess oil that they use to lube those giant props? You never heard about local people finding their animals dead because the wind carries that toxic oil all across the field and it pollutes the grass causing disease upon ingestion?

Oh my, don't tell me that. Evil corporations. Green is nice, it calms me down. Fund Greenpeace please.

  • As I said - in nature any attempt to reduce individual consumption (by pride or individual) is like suicide. As this food and resources will be used by competition, always.

yeah well maybe i'm going to a higher plane of existence when i die where i don't have to fight for basic necessities for survival. or maybe this is not the only habitable planet in the galaxy. and maybe the elites will all exit this planet in their giant spaceship which requires 1 billion euro to buy a ticket just before a major catastrophe wipes out planet earth and i will be invited by the elites because one of the daughters of an elite family will fall in love with me because i'm so cool that i try to conserve resources while everybody else doesn't give a shit.

if things turn into mad max where people are killing each other for a drop of water, i will commit suicide. yeah so maybe your theory is more likely than my scenario.

  • Dude, extinction is like shit, it happens.

OF course, but it can't be reasonably made choice.

  • Dude, extinction is like shit, it happens.

  • Then as I see it, two options remain. 1) extinction 2) Policy response. Option 2 will probably cause a war or something horrendous. Still better than option 1.

Extinction is not a choice, at least for thinking monkeys (who we are).

Policy response is not possible without changing whole society structure.

As for now you want to appeal to sadist to not torture his slaves too much, and change policy so salves could have future. Well, he does not care.
