    The original purpose for cameras on a pole was for stabilisation, especially for cameras like GoPros ( which the above video was shot with) and others that have no inbuilt stabilising features. Simple to use, effective and not effected by wind like gimbals etc. I've used them for years, some weighted, some just monopods.

    Now the trendy crowd have labelled them Selfies.... I feel self-conscious or ashamed now out in public with one :-(
