That same day, someone forced open doors to the electrical room at Black magic Design Distribution Center on the 2800 block of Bayview Drive and then cut Sheetrock to get inside the warehouse.
The men again cut Internet, security and phone lines, Bosques said. The business reported the men took about 350 cameras and computers valued at $1.2 million to $1.5 million.
...supposition ?
We will see them all on ebay and similar places soon. And 350 cameras is a lot for BM market.
"Wow - you're selling me a BM Pocket for $250 - how can you do that?" ----"eh yo, it fell off the back of a truck!"
350 x $995 does not equal $1.2 - 1.5 million
Conspiracy theory alert: maybe the $499 sale of BMPCC was not by Blackmagic but actually by thieves impersonating Blackmagic? And THAT explains why they were so cheap!
350 x $995 does not equal $1.2 - 1.5 million
Some (more sceptical) readers might suspect some creative stock-taking.. ;-)
With the new incamera card formating, blackmagic could sell these forever at ? It's gonna be hard for them to maintain the 995 price for long. I'd guess they could level out at 700 and sell for the next 2 years there. Truthfully, card formating was the last thing this camera needed.
@spacewig - why would you assume it was pocket cameras? It could very easily have been$2k BMCCs or $3K BMPC4K or a decent run of Ursas. 100 Ursas would add up to more than $600K
My earlier comment was meant for mattgh2 who joked about cheap bmpcc's being sold off the back of a truck but based on the reported total value of the stolen goods simple math tells us it must be 350 units of BM's higher end models.
Read closely; computers and cameras!
@spacewig : Gotcha!
The only thing missing in this video is a vodka tonic and a smoke on the guys' hands
Some superficial thought, how ironic for someone who's all about image, such crappy footage!!! What BM saved in the overall security (insurance will cover loses) will most and directly affects users... nuthin' magic in having a greedy greedy black soul :P
It's Huck from SCANDAL! (US ABC network)
Black Magic guy: Aye, mate! So what you're sayin' is: if some bloke rips off 'ah cameras. People will think we have a HOT camera!
Meanwhile in San Mateo, CA, GoPro CEO Nick Woodman is worth $5 billion bucks!
