Up for sale is a awesome set of OCT-19 mount Lomo lenses.
I’ve tried to hold onto these lenses for as long as I could, but unfortunately financial circumstances mean that I must let them go. These lenses are becoming harder and harder to find!
My loss—and labor in collecting this set—is your gain. The set is color matched (with a caveat I explain below).
I’m originally asked $3,300 for the whole set, but now I'm dropping it down to $2,800 for the full 7 LENS SET. This price includes the nearly new pelican case. Shipping will be adjusted accordingly.
I am also open to selling these lenses individually, and have listed prices for them below.
Below is a breakdown of the 7 lenses, following which are details and pictures of the lenses (the next post will include test pics taken with the lenses):
18mm OKC1-18-1 (#780067) t3.4 -- $390
18mm OKC1-18-1 (#780199) t3.4 -- $275 (a little softer than the other)
22mm OKC3-22-1 (no serial listed but probably 90s optical block) t2.3 -- $490 (outperformed a 90s version I tested against)
28mm OKC4-28-1 (#760372) t2.4 -- $440
35mm OKC11-35-1 (#820459) t2.2 -- $390 outperformed a 90s version I tested against
50mm OKC (#800338) t2.3 -- $390 outperformed a 90s version I tested against
75mm (#850636) t2.2 -- $625
Please note I also have an Oct-19 to Micro 4/3rds adapter for $260 sale here: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9426/for-sale-lomo-oct-19-to-micro-43-adapter#Item_4
Here’s a picture of the set in the Pelican case:
None of these have any fungus or haze on them, and if there is any race of dust in them, it’s very very minor. Onto the specifics.
18mm #780067 Smooth focus, iris is smooth but a just little stiff. This lens is significantly lighter in weight than the #780199. This is the only lens in the set that seems to render color just slightly different from the others. There’s a little yellow bias I found.
18mm #780199 Focus is smooth but a bit hard. Iris is smooth (almost too smooth). This lens is heavier than the other 18mm, and has a brass focus ring. It’s color matched to the rest of the lenses. There’s a slight smudge on the back rear optical element that I think is perhaps oil, but I’m unsure. I tried to indicate this on the picture. In any case, it’s optical performance is the same as the other 18mm.
22mm Focus and iris are smooth. It has a 32 pitch gear installed on it.
This lens doesn’t have a serial number listed. But I’ve tested this lens against a 22mm from 1992 (that I sold here), and the 22mm I’m now selling was a sharper, better performer throughout its range.
28mm Focus smooth; there’s some discoloration on some of the iris blades (which can be hard to see at some angles) but it turns like butter.
Note that this is not the OKC7-28-1. And the reason I didn’t go for that lens and went for this model instead was based on an email exchange I had with Olex Kalynychenko. He informed me that the later model tends to be more prone to problems because of the design of its optical block (something about the third element being glued in a particular way). The OKC4-28-1 doesn’t have this design feature. Plus this particular OKC4-28-1 I found was in great condition.
35mm Focus and iris smooth. Sharp, great lens. Like the 50mm, I test this 35mm against a 90s counterpart which I sold here. I kept this one because it was sharper performer.
50mm Great lens! Focus is smooth. The iris ring on this lens is smooth, but gives a bit more resistance between t4 and infinity than from wide open to t4.
Like the 35mm, I test this against its 90s counterpart. And I kept this one because it’s sharper.
75mm Focus is smooth and great. The iris is smooth but a bit stiff (works properly of course!). Otherwise, the lens is in an excellent condition, and is just beautiful throughout its range.
Here are some test pics taken with the lenses -- note that these were shot on a gh2 in jpeg stills mode at ISO 800, daylight white balance. I didn't color correct or add sharpness, etc. The only thing I did was (uniformly) bring up the white levels. There were some slight changes in lighting (natural daylight only).
I've shot a lot with my 2 Lomos (28mm and 50mm) and love em on my GH2. I believe my 28 is also a 1976 and I love it. Curious how these Lomos might look on a Pocket Cinema with nice lighting and grading.
That 22mm looks great! (the others too, but the 22, apart from the 75 is the only one I don't have). @matt_gh2 IMO the pocket cinema cam is not great with these.. The sensor is on the smaller side to take advantage of the "funk" of the optics, what you get is a pretty soft result with enlarged abberrations. Obviously this might work for something anyway, but it's not great in my opinion.
@RRRR I'm not so sure about your analysis. Generally, lenses tend to be sharper and have less problems the closer you get to the middle of the lens. Since a Super16 sized sensor would extract more of a crop from the middle, the image should be fine. It's just that 20mm on super16 is approaching short telephoto, etc.
@qwerty it's true that you get most of the "good" part of a lens (centre of circle of confusion), however, it also magnifies everything. ANY weakness becomes more apparent.. and it will look quite different to the sensor/image size it was inteded for. A lens that is not terribly fast and not terribly sharp will lack a bit of the feeling it can have.. Although some might not object.
Agree about the relative focal length issue.
Price drop on whole set to --> $2,600
People have used these lenses with the RED (including in the film "The Loneliest Planet") So it could be a great option to take some of the "digital edge" off of the GH4 in 4K!
Individual lenses also price dropped:
18mm OKC1-18-1 (#780067) t3.4 -- $350
18mm OKC1-18-1 (#780199) t3.4 -- $230 (a little softer than the other)
22mm OKC3-22-1 (no serial listed but probably 90s optical block) t2.3 -- $450 (outperformed a 90s version I tested against)
28mm OKC4-28-1 (#760372) t2.4 -- $430
35mm OKC11-35-1 (#820459) t2.2 -- $350 outperformed a 90s version I tested against
50mm OKC (#800338) t2.3 -- $350 outperformed a 90s version I tested against
75mm (#850636) t2.2 -- $600
Oct19 to Micro 4/3 Adapter: $240
Beautiful lenses, and you're selling low. I own a set like this one, and (unless people don't need to cover a full frame sensor) i don't realize why they are still for sale: this is a bargain and beautiful lenses!
Only one thing: when you say: "(outperformed a 90s version I tested against)" please explain in what, and post the test, or you don't need to say that. AFAIK, lomo primes (not Lomo Ekran primes, there we talk about $2000 per lens) from 1990 to 1992 are the best, and they sells for more value easily.
Said that, it is crazy not to buy your lenses at this price, and if i needed a second set, we would have a deal here. (I have a Red and a GH2, and i use them for both cameras, and they are excellent, and genuine cinema primes, not declicked still lenses).
Last tought: if a person bring to "cinemize" his lens, he spends the same money he will spend buying your set: that is insane!
Good luck for your sale.
Jean

Hey @josh_chiara: sorry I had a bit of an emergency situation I had to deal with the last few days. Hence the delay in response. I respond to your PM.
