US: Dell sees light in the tunnel, sadly, it seems to be train coming
  • Two sources have told us Dell is starting the expected huge layoff programme this week, claiming numbers will be north of 15,000.

    There are cuts in all departments, according to one of our sources, who says some of these have already been downsized and are now being told to cut 15 per cent more heads.

  • Dell is reducing PC R&D resources at its development center in Austin, Texas and will shift the resources to its Taiwan development center, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers. Global PC demand is shrinking and vendors have to minimize production costs to cope with the continual decreases in PC pricing. Taiwan has advantages in PC hardware development in terms of technological capability and cost, the sources pointed out.
