Diario.es reported this month that come October, Spain's statistical agency (INE) will include revenue flows from prostitution, drug traffic and contraband in its calculations of Gross National Product. El Diario's January 20 article cites estimates that this will add 10 billion euros a year to Spain's GNP, an increase of about 1%.
The European System of Accounts has recommended for years that all its 28 members states include the illegal economy in GNP, but in 2016, member states will be required to do so.
