  • According to International Energy Agency (IEA) statistics, the average energy value of a ton of coal mined in the United States in 2010 was only 85% of the average mined in 2009.

    According to the IEA, net calorific values of coal in the US were:

    • 2005 0.632 toe/tonne
    • 2008 0.635 toe/tonne
    • 2009 0.641 toe/tonne
    • 2010 0.543 toe/tonne
