Pro: Direct testing requests
  • This topic is decicated to my direct requests to make specific testing.

As all Pro topics it is intended to testers who want to help and understand that they are doing.
If you do not understand, either ask or just read and wait.

    Active points:
    * Try to format SD card using exFAT file system
    * Check how it works in GH2
    * Combine two large MOV files making them >2Gb, and >4Gb. Check if they can be played back in camera.

    This is a perfect topic...
  • For 24H there is definitely something going on at 60000000. For 61, 62,63,64 and 65 mill 24H the GH2 records the codec crusher test chart perfectly for as long as I want but in streamparser I see those clips have been throttled down to 4-5Mb/s as you describe. But at 60000000 the GH2 recording stops in 2 seconds with the familiar 'write - performance limitation error' which seems to indicate the throttling mechanism has stopped and it's actually trying to write the higher data rate but can't. All this is with only 24H set to 60mill and absolutely nothing else set. Will do more testing under 60mill in a.m.

    * This mirrors my experience with the 24P 3 GOP patch on the other thread, whenever I tried to go above 60mill for 24H it didn't work no matter what I set the tester patches to.
  • Thanks.
Now set bitrate at the throttled value and keep it constant
But this time adjust 1080p High Top Setting (in testers section).
Start at 65000 and go down. See how it behaves.
Always remember about binary search as it saves your time :-)
  • Will do more in a.m. Battery is low and have to sleep. I know, sleep is for wimps :-)
  • 24H 60000000 record don't stop but pulsing video and bitrate go down to 5Mb/s.
The same in 24L over 32000000.
  • @Ulisse

What card did you use at 60mill? For me it didn't write at all crashing, but at 61m and above it wrote as you described. I was on Dana Elec Class 10, card. Don't have my cam to test more until monday.
  • @kae, i use Voglander SDHC class 10 32Gb.
  • Vitaly, I can do this test today, should I set the bit rate to factory default or Ptool recommended value?
  • >Vitaly, I can do this test today, should I set the bit rate to factory default or Ptool recommended value?

    What do you mean?
  • "Now set bitrate at the throttled value and keep it constant
But this time adjust 1080p High Top Setting (in testers section).
Start at 65000 and go down. See how it behaves."

    should I set 24H bitrate at 22000000 or 42000000?

or is this test is already done?
  • >should I set 24H bitrate at 22000000 or 42000000?
You can see that I mention "throttled value". This is large bitrate setting that results in very low, improper, bitrate. Look at other posts here to understand proper setting.

  • Thrilled with your work on this hack so far. Here are my observations:

66 Mbit = constant pulsing low bitrate artifacts
60 Mbit = constant pulsing low bitrate artifacts
56 Mbit = constant pulsing low bitrate artifacts
52 Mbit = constant pulsing low bitrate artifacts
50 Mbit = constant pulsing low bitrate artifacts
48 Mbit = image stabilizes after first second of low bitrate

Details: Applied only Version Increment and 24H compression patch (end user).

Any suggestions for what to do next?
  • @ka00

    Big thanks for testing.

    Set 50Mbit.
But this time adjust 1080p High Top Setting (in testers section).
Start at 65000 and go down. See how it behaves.

  • 50Mbit
65000 High top 1080p= strong macroblocking and 4.7Mbit average bitrate

    50Mbit
    55000= strong macroblocking/ 5.2Mbit avg. bitrate

    50Mbit
    45000= strong macroblocking/ 5.5Mbit avg bitrate

    50Mbit
    35000= strong macroblocking/ 5.5Mbit avg bitrate

    50Mbit
25000= first second of file looks good, after 1 second, strong macroblocking and 5.5Mbit avg bitrate

  • @svart

    Thanks. Very useful.

  • Tried to do so. After inserting it into a camera Camera says: SD card error. Format?
  • Anyone or @Vitaliy_Kiselev Can you confirm by setting 720p Encoder Setting 1 and 720p Encoder Setting 2 to both = 1 that 1080i PAL is now 25P ?!!!
  • @driftwood I don't have stream parser or anything like that but Premiere Pro says:

    File Path: /Volumes/NO NAME/private/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM/00000.MTS
    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 21.0 MB
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:00:10:15
Average Data Rate: 2.0 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0

    checked patches: version increment, 30 min removal, PAL/NTSC, 720 Encoder Setting 1 and 2 both = 1
