Some guy built a prototype using a Raspberry Pi Zero and its camera module, but he claims that if he gets funding, he'll have some mystery camera company build him a dedicated board with a better sensor with higher megapixel count. Good news - the entire setup will increase your film camera to only 3x its original size and have a big block sticking out of the back which will probably make it hard to look through the viewfinder (presumably that's why he's promoting the ability to preview on a smartphone)...
Ah, the same guy built a similarly janky back last year and put it on kickstarter. Surprisingly, it got funded and then more surprisingly, he actually delivered it.

interesting cause i own a ae-1 and a fe2 that could just dust dem off
I think there would be a lot of demand for something like this, but, when it's a bit smaller. Everyone has got a SLR lying around, they'd be interested to use again -Nikon FE2 here.
Yeah, I'd love to get something like this - I have lots of vintage gear that it would be fun to resurrect, but not if it's going to make my camera 3x the size for quality worse than most modern cameras.
