  • Very nice. This might be my next audio upgrade. The official info isn't even up yet on the Tascam site. I wonder if that 'ext in' on top is only a 'line in' or if its connected to a pre-amp? Its good to see they finally worked on improving the battery life. I get about 45 minutes out of my original DR-100 which is pathetic for an audio recorder.

  • They sent press info and it is present on their Japane site. It is always the case with Japanese audio manufacturers.

  • Nice! Glad to see an update to an already great product!

  • They removed the best feature - digital in?

  • No, connector is on top.

  • Nice improvements, especially battery and screen.

  • $499?? Ouch! Hope the street price drops down quickly? Like I recall happening with the DR60D I think (which is an absolute bargain!).

Was really hoping Tascam would respond to Zoom's F8 product instead, and make a professional grade mixer/recorder at around the thousand ish dollar price point, positioned above the DR680mk2, with knobs for each input, and have time code.

  • “As high-resolution recordings have grown in popularity, audio professionals are demanding higher sample rates and better performance,” says Tascam’s Jeff Laity. “The DR-100 series has always been the handheld recorder of choice for serious location recording and sound design, and we knew we’d have to do a lot to improve upon that. We haven’t just added features – we’ve created an even more powerful, high-precision professional recording tool.”

The DR-100mkIII offers dual stereo mics, in both AB and omnidirectional patterns for maximum versatility, two XLR/combo jacks, switchable phantom power, and a dedicated input level control for fast, tactile operation. And the DR-100mkIII’s innovative dual battery technology utilizes a built-in Li-ion rechargeable as well as AA batteries, giving you extended recording times and the ability to change batteries on the fly.

The DR-100mkIII also features Tascam’s Dual Recording Mode, which simultaneously captures a lower level safety track, to safeguard against unexpected source level spikes.

The new Tascam DR-100mkIII is available now at a street price of $399.99.

As is often seen with Tascan products, the street price did drop down quite fast. Now it is nearly half that: https://www.amazon.com/DR-100mkII-2-Channel-Portable-Digital-Recorder/dp/B006JVNTXO/

EDIT: Errr... nope, I was an idiot! Was linking to mk2, as mk3 is not even on Amazon!! But B&H has the mk3 for $399 as VK reported:

I'm still waiting on this :(

  • Available in Europe soon from Thomann (€389) https://www.thomann.de/gb/tascam_dr_100_mk3.htm

  • I decided to go for the MKIII. I've only made a few quick recordings with it, but so far it seems to be a significant upgrade from the previous models and I think its safe to say, its probably best thing going in this price range. I wrote up a quick review on my website and included some audio recordings to listen to and download if you like. If anyone has any questions or something you would like me to test, let me know. http://maaheli.ee/main/tascam-dr-100mkiii-quick-review/
