Taiwan-based ODMs shipped 2.367 million digital cameras in the first quarter of 2014, decreasing by 30.4% on quarter and by 58.6% on year, according to Digitimes Research.

Nikon was the largest client accounting for 46.3% of the shipments, followed by Fujifilm with 12.6%

Canon Australia will sack almost 10 percent of its Australian staff following a dramatic downturn in profit (before income tax) in its 2013 financial year from $38.6 million (2012) to just $4.1 million.

Olympus targets to sell 630,000 units of mirrorless cameras this year, 24 percent higher than the previous 12-month period. Sales of compact cameras are expected to plunge to 1 million units this year from 2.71 million units a year earlier, the company said.
