For this reason I'd like to look into getting a smaller travel tripod for my video shoots. The only one I can really find that seems decent is the Benro Aero 4, but it's quite pricey.

Does anyone else know any other alternatives?

Travel tripod/monopod with Fluid Head http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9417/travel-tripodmonopod-with-fluid-head Tue, 21 Jan 2014 22:36:20 +0000 MaulKentor 9417@/talks/discussions I'm looking to use a Manfrotto 502HD head or something similar on a mefoto travel tripod (benro). I want it to be lightweight for traveling but sturdy enough to use a BMPCC or a GH3 on it and still get smooth tilts and pans for narrative and documentary filmmaking. Will this combination work and/or does anybody have any other suggestions? Thanks

Searching for gear for GH4 for shooting in Taiwan http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14009/searching-for-gear-for-gh4-for-shooting-in-taiwan Sat, 31 Oct 2015 10:06:07 +0000 kolinko 14009@/talks/discussions Hello!

I didn't have much time to check out the gh4 so far, a lot of work hinders me, going too far into research for each little thing myself, that's why I hoped I could get a little support from you hear. Mostly I'll record video and sound on myself at the same time, not sure if I'll have an assistant from time to time. My idea until now is to record in 4k, maybe in 24fps should be alright I guess. The shooting will be for a 5 video monitor/large flat screen panels installation.

My equipment so far: GH4 with kit lens 12-35mm

  • Voigtlander Nocton 17.5mm 0.95f with UV and ND filters
  • Voigtlander Nocton 42.5mm 0.95f with UV and ND filters
  • One SD card SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB 280 MB/s (I'll have another one like that)
  • only one battery so far
  • trolley case

I'll definitely need a second battery or the battery grip, is it a good thing to have?

  • Sound Recording device
  • Microphone (one or two? maybe too much to handle!)
  • Wind jammer (boom?)

  • Any experiences with 'Rycote Zoom H5 Audio Kit' or 'Tascam DR-60DmkII 4-Channel Portable Recorder with Rode NTG2 Condenser Shotgun Mic Kit'?

  • Tripod mainly to use as proper stand in any condition, not sure if I'll need a very heavy one for doing pans?

  • Rig / steady cam? I actually would prefer shooting with a rig/steady cam to make pans with a heavy tripod. Follow focus! Which one?

  • A super-portable extra light like dedo light!

  • SSD discs for backups?

  • A Mattebox?

And everything should be of proper quality, lightweight one-person-solutions, possible to get through the airports O.K..

Thanks, I appreciate your hints, ideas, experiences and comments ! kolinko

What Fluid Head is this!?!? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14141/what-fluid-head-is-this Wed, 02 Dec 2015 01:37:07 +0000 fotosiamo 14141@/talks/discussions So my friend bought a Davis & Sanford 7518 tripod recently off Amazon, but instead of getting the popular FM18, she got a V18 fluid head, a model I've never seen before and can't even find any info on Google, Amazon, or B&H.

Anyone heard of this? Someone said that it's a rebadged fluid head, but he doesn't know which one. It does seem smoother than the FM18, though.

As we either had cheap plastic heads on very bad legs with good weight, or full fledged video tripods with big metal heads. Both of them are not best company to your small camera if you are travelling or like to walk a lot.

In this thread I would like to know what is the best slider setup for small cameras.

Here's mine:

  • For wedding and run 'n gun work: Manfrotto 055XPRO4 + Konova k2 60cm + 701HDV head.
  • For studio work: two stands at the edges of an IGUS 100cm + 701HDV head.

The first one is very quick and smart but I have to try it with a leveling plate under the slider.

Post yours!

Perfect for DSLR's, A7s, BMC, etc. Once you tried a Libec, you'll sell your Manfrotto or Cartoni Focus.

Ballhead / Videohead for single tripod and slider http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9020/ballhead-videohead-for-single-tripod-and-slider Mon, 09 Dec 2013 08:13:22 +0000 vstardust 9020@/talks/discussions I'm looking forward to support my motorized 75cm slider using one tripod only. Overall weight on slider is about 4kg. The problem is that I haven't found good solution to attach the slider to the tripod.

Do you guys have similar setups or have recommendations for sturdy ballheads or videoheads that could do the job? Manfrotto 701HDV videohead or Benro B2 ballhead weren't sturdy enough. Ideal solution would be a sturdy lockable tilt head, but I haven't been able to find any.

Not sure how they should attach? The Manfrotto video tripod legs (755XB) also have the same 3/8" attachment I think so unless it is female (and it doesn't look to be), am I missing something?

I thought the half bowl itself would have movement to allow me to level my camera without adjusting tripod legs, but it was rigid so I've reboxed it and returning for the flat base fluid head instead. I guess the flat base means a female 3/8" connector?

Only problem then being I need everything ready for Friday!!

GH2 Accessories – Cage, Matte Box, Rails, Monitor http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7547/gh2-accessories-cage-matte-box-rails-monitor Wed, 17 Jul 2013 19:41:30 +0000 kingmixer 7547@/talks/discussions Well, I've held off on this as long as I can. Non-paying clients have forced my hand – so I have to part with some beloved gear that I put a lot of time, research and money into acquiring together. This is a nice "full package" of GH2 shooting accessories. It includes:

• Anodized Cage with handles, rails, allen wrenches, and threaded holes, even has lips to secure camera and allows battery change without removing camera.

• Matte Box (vertically adjustable) with flags and different sized rings,

• Rails (vertically adjustable on tripod mount), both top and bottom rails

• Monitor with three batteries, hood, charger, short HDMI cable, and AC plug. Not a high-end monitor, but works well, reliable, and is great for focusing.

• Follow-focus, including two different mount heights, I can forewarn that this does have some play, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's an easy fix.

• Threaded arms and shoes mounts – work for mounting any items on cage or camera.

All is in good cosmetic and working condition (and in a nice Pelican Case), except the minor play on the follow focus which was mentioned. If possible, I'd like to sell the kit or as much together as I can. Check out pictures and make me reasonable offer if interested please.

*note this does not include the camera bodies themselves.

Fancier FC-470 tripod http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/292/fancier-fc-470-tripod Mon, 27 Jun 2011 01:13:05 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 292@/talks/discussions Just initial observations.

Good quality and handy tripod. Not very cheap.
Legs. Better than EI717 legs.
Adjustable mid spreader and locks are more handy.
Legs have spikes and removable rubber boots.
Head. Very good.
Counterbalance is adjustable without steps, this is big plus.
But. Not really suitable in current state for small cameras.
As actual minimum of normally working counterbalance needs full rig with monitor, battery, counterweights, not small lens. :-)
Even then weight can be small. You need something around 3.5-4.5Kg at minimum CB adjustment.
Otherwise initial impressions are pretty ok. Drag adjustments work. Head do not have micro stucks with largest drag.

image
GH1 with Samyang 14mm looks small on this head.

I'll update this topic after testing it with full rig and 35mm Rokinon lens:

Review: Nest NT-6264CK Tripod/Monopod http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6388/review-nest-nt-6264ck-tripodmonopod Wed, 13 Mar 2013 07:57:40 +0000 shungyiu 6388@/talks/discussions Review:

Nest NT-6264CK Tripod/Monopod

Pros:

-Lightweight & compact;

-Very portable because of its folding mechanism - only 1/2 metre long after folded;

-Fairly quick & usable release locks for extending/retracting tripod legs;

-Small ball head that pans smoothly;

-Very sturdy;

-Quality tripod bag that offers adequate protection.

Cons:

-Ball head doesn't tilt;

-Level difficult to adjust.

Video demonstration found on youtube:

Thoughts:

I've been using this tripod for over 2 months, on numerous occasions and at least 2 important events.

This tripod is useful for a multi cam but non-manned setup, it should not be used as your main camera's support, where you would likely want to pan/tilt, and adjust quickly.

But it's wonderful for picnics or outings with family & friends, when time is not of the essence, you would still have to be very patient with the level of the bullhead though.

I also have a Manfrotto MKC3-H01 Photo-Movie Kit QR, obviously the price reflects the quality, the Nest Tripod is much better in almost all aspects, and it's only slightly bulkier after folded up.

I like Manfrotto's legs locking mechanism, I think they are the best in the market, but I've found these Nest tripods locks very usable, much better than what I expected.

This tripod can be converted to a monopod, but I've never tried it.

If you need an extra tripod for an un-manned camera, these are very good and reliable and will add only very little to your bulk, because of the excellent packing design, I'd suggest you go for the tallest version(model no. maybe NT-6294CK), since it's so light and compact.

For main camera like GH2/GH3 I still prefer to use Manfrotto 128RC head+190CXPRO+Rapid center column+shoulder strap.

Finally I would like to thank Vitaliy for finding us such wonderful tools.

Tripod upgrade on the budget http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5742/tripod-upgrade-on-the-budget Thu, 10 Jan 2013 17:10:27 +0000 Riker 5742@/talks/discussions I sport a vintage Slik 503QF tripod (its been working fine for 20 years) and because of that, I'm somewhat inclined to the Slik brand. But, I'm considering an upgrade, since the center column can be pushed down even when it's tightened, so putting a rig on that wouldn't make me confident.

Slik 504 QF II seems like a reasonable upgrade, so Im planning on this, and correct me if Im wrong - if I get the slider (Im thinking Varavon) I should get another Slik 504 head too for the slider, and get 3 QR plates (rig, tripod, slider)...am I missing out on something, special screw adapters or whatnot?
