Was wondering if a Mac Pro G5 can edit hacked gh2 footage smoothly? also hpx 170 footage I have a 2011 13' mbp and it edits it fine and everything I just want a desktop with a cinema display.
This guy offered me this system with 23' apple display for my mbp + $300. curious if its good deal and if im really losing out on anything that the mbp has that the Mac Pro doesnt since i know it isnt as new.

Lookin at that one for around $400-500 with display.
Here is my Current MBP:
Thanks for any advice.
I really suggest to make better title, as it does not match topic now.
And also add editor you use and provide full configuration.
editor? like mac fcp?
You realize that 27" IPS monitors are also cheap?
oh yeah thats cool, still pricey $300-340 i found apple cinema displays on craigslist for $90-250.
But my main concern is weather that G5 will handle gh2 footage ect.

Looking at wiki, G5 can be quite different, but all seems very old.
PowerMac Dual Core G5's are going for $75-150 now on ebay, amazon and craigslist.

Remember, it uses a PowerPC chip so a lot of new software may not run on it. May not be worth the hassle.
so i should fine a tower that is Intel?
There are older Intel Macs and the newer i5 intel macs. I doubt if you can find one in the $300 range, although 20" imac dual cores are around $300. Still they might be too slow.
Main issue here is why spend money on outdated stuff, it is much more easy to assemble new PC tower. If you so like Mac OS, check Hackintosh topic here.

An i5 Mbp should be fine if you configure it correctly. Don't trade for a g5.
If you are dead broke sell your Mbp and build something.
Ya i discovered that site last night, good website. I love my mbp i5 edits smootly but i want a desktop with cinema display. Would I be able to match up specs on my mbp to hackintosh thatl be comptiable and use those parts? obviously not mobo , ect.
Yeah im in process of selling it right now.
2007 Mac Pro 1.1 Quad 2.66ghz , 6gb-12gb ram, 1tb hd,256mb gfx,
said he would do trade for my 13' 2011 mbp , I know they are some what similar i just want to make sure it can handle my gh2 and hpx footage. also My mbp is newer so im guessing maybe i should ask for an extra $100-150 for the trade?
Thanks for advice, Ive decided to get legit mac pro tower over a hackintosh.
Id go Hackintosh > that MACPro, as having several of them (Macpros) - the old mobo power for drives is terrible - I mix daily 24/7 and the Hackytoshes we've deployed destroy even our $100k HDX Avid solutions, it's up to you - but native works very very well >> HDX and the cards we've bought (lots) which we use daily on world distributed programmes and music studios that sell multiple million singles, don't do anything more than our Hackintosh systems other than costing 30k £ less - really - we've won a few Emmys and a Brit on a Hackintosh this year - yeah it's o.k. lol
hmm haha cant decide
If you prefer a desktop a Mac Pro 1.1 is not horrible - but I think you are much better off keeping or selling your laptop and building a hack with a monitor. No warranty on either one haha - so... you know.
Like Vitaliy said - take a look at a good ips panel. I use this personally:
