How to make the "suspense" sfx?
  • Sorry guys for the pathetic description. I'll explain, since words have no place in the audio part of the forum - here is the sound of what I mean by "suspense" sound effect;

    What kind of instrument is this, since I would like to recreate it. It leaves me in suspense of "somethings bout to happen" but not in a cheesy way...

  • Not sure how these sfx were made. Perhaps two sound elements.

    1. isolate sound of metal gates closing, add lots of reverb for the tail
    2. drone pad from a synth or you may find in sound library
  • Never thought of closing gate sound, it really sounds similar! I got an impression it was more train brake squeal...now I need to sift through some audio libraries and try to find a way to replicate...

    I wonder how they did it back in those days without the ease of digital editing...also, I think many of those sound effects were tailored to the scene/camera movement
