Mordor: Copyrats gain more power
  • During a meeting held on December 7 in Roskomnadzor, Internet companies and copyright holders agreed to sign a new version of the anti-piracy memorandum. This was reported by Vedomosti.

Yandex, Rambler, All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, as well as associations of the largest copyright holders announced their readiness to discuss the new version of the memorandum. The signing is expected to take place before the end of the year. The new version of the document will be valid for three years.

The new memorandum will include a rule to remove from the search results "recidivist sites" with more than 100 links to illegal copies of films and TV series. Thus, Lostfilm, Kinogo and other sites that have survived due to regular domain name changes will be banned. In addition, there will be measures to combat domain splicing, allowing pirates to return to the same search positions after the link is removed from the SERP.

It is proposed to extend the action of the memorandum not only to audiovisual content, but also to other objects of intellectual property, such as books and music. It is clarified that the sanctions will not apply to legal sites, for example, websites of authorities, media, social networks, video services included in the register of audiovisual services of Roskomnadzor, and others.

Destroying copyright in any forms is essential for humanity. We can't move on with information and tools being "owned" by greedy bastards.
