Energy: Moldova entering emergency state

    The Parliament of Moldova voted to introduce a state of emergency in the country due to the energy crisis. It will be valid for 30 days - from October 22 to November 20.

    The Emergency Situations Commission will be empowered to take emergency measures, including:

    • the establishment of a special accelerated regime for the purchase of natural gas, funds for this will be allocated from the state budget;
    • introduction, if necessary, of a regime for rational consumption of gas and other energy resources;
    • making decisions to enable suppliers to transport and distribute natural gas throughout the country;
    • coordinate the activities of the media in relation to informing the population about the causes and extent of the emergency and the measures taken.

    This is only the beginning.

    The two-day Russian-Moldovan talks on gas issues, which took place with the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kozak, ended in vain, a source close to the talks told Kommersant. According to him, the Moldovan side insisted on the gas price twice lower than the market price.

    Big proponents of capitalism and free market suddenly backpedaled from their principles.
