Tower Semiconductor hacked - who's turn now to suffer?
  • Tower Semiconductor today announced that the Company’s IT security systems identified a security incident on some of its systems as a result of a cyber event. As a preventive measure, the Company halted certain of its servers and proactively held operations in some of its manufacturing facilities, and has done so in a gradual, organized manner.

Tower has notified relevant authorities and is working closely with law enforcement organizations and with a leading team of worldwide experts, coordinated with its insurance providers, in order to recover the impacted systems as soon as possible. The Company has implemented specific measures to prevent the expansion of this event. At this point there is no assessment as to the actual effect on the Company.

Rumors are that certain production systems are fully encrypted.

  • It's amazing how common and successful ransomware attacks are. You never hear about them in the news unless you're following a dedicated cybersecurity site. But every week there are multiple, big money attacks. It's crazy.

    Cryptocurrency really facilitates these crimes.

It's just humble beginning. As software become more and more complex and division of labor intensify you will see staggering holes and doorwars. Add here huge trade and electronic war going now, and it will big giants who will go next. I won't be surprised that we can hear that Apple will be unable to release certain chips or devices due to total encryption of whole datacenter, including all backups.
