Official: Sony management is nuts
  • Sony Corporation recently held a press conference in China. During the event, the head of Sony’s imaging and sensing solutions business had cause to throw some light into the company’s operations. He also detailed the innovation journey and future of Sony Image Sensing innovative technology.which has made tremendous progress over the years.

Sony admitted that the rapid growth in demand for multi-camera and large-size chips in the mobile phone market (especially in the Chinese market) exceeded its expectations. In response to this growth, the Japanese company has ramped up production.

What is exactly "large size"? 1/2.33"? 1.17"? Or they mean few models with new 108Mp sensor from Samsung or one Huawei model with sensor with YY filters that screws all colors?

Sony is also working to improvements to its new image sensors in aspects such as HDR, low light, autofocus and high-speed focus. The company hints that the ultimate goal is to catch up with SLR in terms of quality.

One thing I hate in all this management mumbo-jumbo and marketing bullshit is that they present all things like it is some kind of magic.
Despite sensors progress in last 3 years almost stalled in medium to large sensor sizes and 90% of all improvements we see now comes from image stacking (averaging) and some math things like slightly better noise reduction. In small sensors they just make up new problems increasing resolution and try to solve some of them for few years.

What about utter failure of all RGBW sensors where Sony invested huge money and told that it is future of all smartphone cameras?

It is enough to look at Sony ex-mobile division (merged to mostly hide issues) that is headed now by their sensors guru. It is in total and utter mess where situation is much worse than even in Olympus. (and it is hard to do!).
