  • At least Google is spending some R&D money on many of those future-looking technologies and projects though. And occasionally some of that tech even makes its way into the hands of end users.

    A lot of companies would look at this kind of revenue statement and not even bother with any of the stuff in item 2.

  • Google's less profitable ventures exist under the Alphabet, inc company, whilst Google itself is an "internet" company which makes the profit . Basically, Google shareholders don't want to mess with anything unprofitable.

    The establishment of Alphabet was prompted by a desire to make the core Google Internet services business "cleaner and more accountable" while allowing greater autonomy to group companies that operate in businesses other than Internet services. Wikipedia
