    Anyone have opinions on if this is worth the (massive) savings vs. a DS1?

    I am in the market for one for a project going on now and was planning to go to B&H to pick-up a DS1 today, then I saw this...

    It is different tool :-) And price is hard to compare.

    If you train and learn to balance it properly you can get very good results, but I suggest to look for small Laing vest and arm.

    I found the Merlin 2 to be an ill-designed product that didn't work very well. If you are at all serious about a stabilizer, your time is better spent on something like a Glidecam HD or a motorized gimbal.

    Want to add one thing. It is not ill designed, but it requires careful approach to balancing and understanding of such design.

    Using usual gimbals like Laing is simpler.
