    PR

Expanding upon Samsung’s premium line of “S” lenses, the new Samsung 50-150mm F2.8 S lens is the second in the series and affords photographers the opportunity to capture telephoto images with crisp clarity and tack sharp focus in a variety of scenarios. Its fast aperture provides excellent low light performance and beautiful bokeh, making it perfect for sports, nature and wedding photography. The lens features an Ultra-Precise Stepping Motor (UPSM), improved from the conventional Stepping Motor (SM), it is three times more precise in its ability to control and focus on subjects. Photographers can capture sharp photos at low shutter speeds using advanced multi-axis Optical Imaging Stabilization (OIS) with four-axis control and a six-axis sensor array. These sensors detect camera motion, and help the lens to make the precision corrections necessary.

The new telephoto lens features a dust and water resistant build making it both durable and reliable. All of the lens controls, focus, zoom and OIS, are located in a single “function zone” on the side of the lens, making it easy to control.

Samsung S 50-150mm f/2.8 ED OIS is another serious statement of intent, offering excellent image quality, great build quality, weather-proofing, and intuitive handling.

The Samsung S 50-150mm f/2.8 ED OIS managed to exceed our expectations in terms of sharpness and general image quality. Centre sharpness in particular is good to very good when shooting wide open at f/2.8 at all focal lengths, with the edges being quite decent too, and both being excellent when stopped down to f/4. The lens is also very well corrected for chromatic aberrations.

Samsung’s 50-150mm f2.8 OIS lens is weather sealed. We took the lens out during a light rainfall and it didn’t seem to be phased by the elements.

Lens’s exterior is comprised of an all metal build that works incredibly well for what it is. The metal is very smooth to the touch and we wish that it were a bit more textured for grip reasons. However, the lens also has a massive focusing ring that can be gripped with no trouble.

This lens’s sharpness is simply incredible.

  • Like the 16-50mm f/2-2.8 lens, it has a metal barrel and mounting plate and is dust-and-splash resistant. It also looks sleek and very well finished.

Measuring 154 mm in length and weighing 915 grams with the lens hood included, the 50-150mm f/2.8 S lens is a substantial handful.

Stabilization is handled by a six-axis sensor that detects camera shake and drives a correction lens to provide four-axis shake control. Samsung claims the system can meet CIPS's 4.5-stop guidelines at a focal length of 68mm with an NX30 camera. On the basis of our tests we feel this degree of correction is achievable across most of the focal length range on the heavier, more stable NX1.

Autofocusing was almost as fast and accurate as we found with the16-50mm f/2-2.8 lens and the 50-150mm f/2.8 S lens focused just as quietly, making this lens ideal for shooting movies. It took less than a second to rack from the closest focus to infinity in bright outdoor lighting and slightly longer indoors under normal artificial light.

The NX 50-150mm f/2.8 S ED OIS zoom lens is an ideal second lens for buyers of the NX1 camera and an excellent partner for the16-50mm f/2-2.8 lens

This lens demonstrates that it is capable of producing excellent results, with high levels of sharpness. CA levels are a little on the high side, but will only become visible on occasion. Focusing is quick and accurate.
